Am I the only one who thinks all the GW scams are going to hurt the hobby?

Yea,I know,I know, everyone is responsible for what they buy, everyone should do their homework before

they spend money on something they know nothing about, but how many people are going to get 'taken'

before the screaming starts about how 'all' coin dealers/sellers are out to take advantage of people?

With all the mis-information,or lack of information ,about these coins,it seems to me that the scammers are out

in force. See the ABSilverman thread, the so-called 'upside down edge letter errors' ,when are the average,

ordinary collectors going to get fed up with it,and possibly/probably leave the hobby for good, thinking

that the coin collecting hobby is a racket that they want no part of.I even saw a listing in the CBH

series on ebay touting the coin as the 'rare' upside down letter edge variety.I'm not predicting 'doom and gloom'

but I don't see how this can be good for the hobby.imageimage

There's a learning curve in any hobby (or any task, for that matter)

for every person burned by BS, I'll bet there's two who keep learning, move past it, and become better collectors.

for who among us has not been burned at least once in the past?

Scams are nothing new, and the hobby seems to be doing just fine. The only difference now is that it's more visible.

I think if GW scams hurt us then we're already cooked. Scams have been around for a long time.

I think the scams hurt the 'scammie' but not neccessarily the hobby. I'll bet that most people (but not all image ) who fall for such things don't do the research or just really feel like rolling the dice. The public in general see the new coins and gain interest but I doubt they hear a whole lot about the scams. Hopefully they are smart enough place blame solely on the scammer and not the mint!

wouldnt the correct word be speculators ? not scammers ? no one has ever forced me or "scammed me" into buying anything, i have bought coins and later realized that it was a bad purchasing decision, did i feel someone scammed me ? no i felt i made a bad decision. but then again, i am in the minority, i hold myself responsible for my actions, no one else

I do also but, if this wasn't done by someone you could call a scammer then it sure is close... Just depends on how its done I guess.
