Well, I've done my part to get these ugly dollars out in circulation.

Between the grocery store, Taco Bell, and Blockbuster I unloaded 50 of them last night.

Oh, these are those new dollars they're talking about on the news! Only one mentioned the plain edge error, though.

I've actually given them away to unsuspecting people. I've given away two rolls so far and spent another roll.

I was at my daughter's softball game the other night and there is one little boy I gave one to. His eyes got huge when I gave him one. I told him to keep it and not spend it. Two days later, I saw him again at the game and I asked him if he still had it.

He pulled out his wallet and proceeded to take it out. He had it inside a little brown coin envelope inside of a little ziplock baggie.

The next day we had another game and I took a clear direct fit capsule for the dollars with me in case I saw him again. Sure enough, he was there and I called him over and together we put it in the capsule. He loved it and I hope he hangs on to it for quite awhile.

Statehood quarters are bad enough. I did buy them from the mint with both proofs just to
keep my quarter collection going. I have to admit, they make a nice looking collection in the Dansco album.

The crossing guard at my kid's elementary school was giving them out to kids crossing the street recently. He is a real cool old-timer who loves coins. He told me recently that he is bummed because he can't get a 2006 ASE, because he doesn't want the other two coins in the set. I'm going to try to find one for him before the end of the school year.

I'll bet the cashiers were really happy to see them.

I've only seen two so far in circulation. Both were in the drawer where coins they aren't going to recirculate go. In my area that usually means Canadian.

I unloaded thirty at the gas station for gas. The cashier who took them liked them the mangaer did not. Something about no one wanting them back.

At starbucks the cashier exchanged them immedietely for money in her own pocket. Mentioned something to a coworker about an error, although she could not remember what it was. I didn't have the heart to tell her I had been through them. Heh maybe she will find something I missed.

I have managed to spend around eighty or so of them since they came out. Kept a few for the parking meter, and a few more in case I forget to have cash.

Went to the bank yesterday and all they had were dollars that had been re-rolled, not original. I guess somebody else is just turning them back in. First time in a long time I have been using cash more than the debit card. Feels unnatural!! How messed up is that!

Start out every morning with 8 GW's. All positive responses for me. People like 'em here, but that's Kentucky. Is that all I need to say?

I spent 65 of them in one shot at Target last nite.

    The cashier was not amused.

I doubt he would have been amused either, Goose, had you spent 65 $1 bills.

For those of you who are trying to use these dollars in commerce, what's your response to the issue many people seem to have with the weight and bulk of keeping these coins in your pocket?

I carried around $12 GW in dollars in my pocket to go buy something recently, and I have to say, I was making a lot of "change" noise. Rather obnoxious.

I know his family doesn't have much in terms of money. My wife taught both of his parents and his sisters and brothers. He is the last one to come through my wife's school and she will probably teach him next year in the 7th grade.

I always hate mentioning a person's race when describing them but this family is African-American and they just love my wife and I, so much so, they call us grandma and grandpa. The parents and kids are a delight to be around and although they might not have much they are still a joy to see and talk to.

You would have thought I gave the little fellow the winning lotto ticket because he was so excited. I will see him again next week and I will see if he still has it. He promised me he wouldn't spend it.

I'm thinking about picking out a silver quarter or a silver half dollar and giving it to him to maybe spark further interest on him becoming a YN. You never know what impact you might have on someone by doing simple things for people.

After 25 chalupas, perhaps someone should link this thread to the coin toilet seat thread!

I spent a few. The first person I gave them to started to fight with the other cashier as to who would get it. I had a feeling people would keep them becuase they have never seen anything like them.
