lets say that you own all 3 of the proof 1960 DDO's

1960 large over small date
1960 small over large date
1960 large /large/small date (or as pcgs lists it as"triple die obverse")

lets also say that you own all 3 in PR-67 red (no cams or dcams)

the large over small has a total population of 92 pieces.................. and 67 red grade is valued at $1350.00
the small over large has a total population of 91 pieces.................. and 67 red grade also priced at $1350.00

can anyone tell me why the triple die (large/large/small) ......with a total population of 15 in ALL grades IS VALUED at a paltry sum of $400.00

?????

15 total!!!

this coin should be valued at 10 grand!

    Mike,
The answer I believe is that the triple die obverse is NOT recognized by PCGS to be included in the Proof Lincoln Cents with varieties 1909 to date Set Registry. I had to deal with that exact issue in persuing completing my set.

it is a cherry pickers number...and it shows up in the pop report and in the price guide.

if eventually they do a "cherry pickers" type registry.

..(and i do believe its been discussed and i also remember RBintex confirming that it will happen some day)

do you think it might gain a little ground then?

I believe we do need a "cherrypickers" Set Registry or any other name you want to call it for those collectors who collect all the hundreds of Lincoln cent varieties and other denomination varieties. I personally do not collect these type coins, but I firmly believe the Set Registry should have a place for them for those collectors who DO collect them. Steveimage

makes no sense to have it listed in both the price guide and the pop report ...if theres nothing promoted in the collecting world on it!

it would be like listing the prices and pops for the 72 die #2, #3, #4, #5 etc..... then not doing anything there as well.

so maybe...(i can hope)...there's something in the works for this tripled die.

The triple die obverse was not recognised until 8/03. They grades the firsr two for me. image
Prior to that they were lumped with the large over small date. So the low pop. of 15
is a very false low pop.

First off....One of you guys has to change your icon---you are driving meimage

It is all supply and demand on this one. 93 people want the LD/SD more than 16 people want the LD/LD/SD.

Explain why the 55DDO-001 has a good 15,000 examples and is worth a fortune, yet the 55DDO-002 has a population closer to 100 and is worth many many multiples less.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

Shhh - I've been hoarding the Lg/Lg/Sm date proofs for some time. I see lots of upside since current pricing doesn't make sense to me either.

Are these coins candidates for the Red Book? It does list the Denver version.

Thanks, JRocco! My icon is a PCGS-MS64 1960-D small/large date.

Is your coin in the Cherrypickers' guide? It looks like it came from a different die than mine, appears to be large/small rather than small/large. First time I've seen one!
