Ebay Power Sellers question

19Lyds19Lyds Posts: 26,503 ✭✭✭✭
I've been invited to become an EBay Power Seller.

Should I do it?

I mean, knowing how power scr....er....sellers are bashed on these boards, I wouldn't want to become a target!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

In my experience, there are very few benefits to be derived from it - unless you want the opportunity to buy bulk lots of crappy items to resell at a 5% profit. Even having the "PowerSeller" logo attached to your user ID (which is NOT optional) seems to be something of a double-edged sword - as many of the comments you alluded to will show. Since accepting the offer (without giving it any real thought, I must admit) to join the ranks of the PSers I have not noticed any impact one way or another on my sales.

So, to answer your question; should you do it? I'm not sure!

Seriously, though, I think that it has to do with how you want to be characterized. I don't think that the title brings any additional business your way, or higher closing prices realized.

Aren't they still offering health insurance through the powerseller program?
that's a decent benefit if you don't have any.

Yes, they are. Also, you get a certificate in the mail. image

The biggest benifit is you get better and faster responses from Ebay when you email them a question or have a problem. You also have a direct email link for power sellers. Otherwise they take you more seriously.

As far as potential bidders it depends on the market you are trying to reach. For some yes, for me not necessary but I do operate as a silver powerseller for the reason stated above.

I've been a Powerseller for a few years. The only time I have heard from Ebay is to warn me that I didn't sell the quota for that particular month.

Well, I think it may be a phishing scam since the clickable link does not go to an EBay address but someother stupid address.

    A 230.red-80-24-33.staticip.rima-tde.net address.

If you want to become a Powerseller just sign up through Ebay. All you have to do is maintain sells of $1000.00 or over each month and have a total feedback record of 100 with 98% of that positive.

You don't need to join the power seller program for that. I've never joined, and I have an account rep complete with his eMail and direct phone number.

Maybe things have changed. I did not sell on Ebay for about 3 years but before that an email to Ebay was like the dead letter office in Chicago.

Interesting on the Ricka4 scandal several years ago. 740 positive feedbacks and the guy goes bad and burns over 40 people for about $50,000. About 15 straight negatives and tons of emails did not get Ebay's attention. But finally a Gold Power Seller doing about $50,000 a month on Ebay placed a phone call and in about 10 minutes Ricka4 was out of business.

The only benefit I have gotten from being a Powerseller is you get a direct phone number to call if you have problems, instead of a generic email response. Oh yeah, I get a Christmas card, and they did send me a plastic pen once. That is all I get at the silver and gold levels. Maybe the higher levels get something better, like a t-shirt or something of equal value.

I'm a Power Seller and I don't think it has harmed my business in any way. I also can't tell if it has helped either. image

I was invited once, but I declined! I couldn't keep up the $1000 a month in sales they require!

Make sure it is a bona fide offer from eBay! There are scams out there that "invite" you only to steal your log in info.

There's NO reason NOT to become one though.

I received an email recently inviting me to become an Ebay powerseller.

It was a fake email, not from Ebay.

I don't know if it helps or hurts
    but

I always enjoy the Complimentary Spa Teatment and "Companion" Package Ebay gives to all the Power Sellers who attend their yearly week long getaway in the Cayman Islands. Their help in setting up bank accounts is priceless also.

Was it in your ebay inbox? I got mine last night and accepted it. Perhaps scammers know what day of the month they send these out on. Otherwise, seems like quite a coincindence. Once you click on acceptance, IIRC, it doesn't ask you to log in or provide your password but you do have to click on accept terms. --Jerry

hey folks, when I wasn't a power seller, I wasn't selling $1000 per month worth of coins. Then for a good portion of the year last year, I had a few months where I exceeded that in sales. And I was. Then, like someone previously mentioned ( ya get a notice and a warning that you are slipping and VOILA) suddenly you are NOT.
You don't get invited to become a power seller. You get assigned if you meet the criteria. At least that is how it was for me.

I thought of ebay like God.

Ebay giveth and Ebay taketh away. image
I assure you garsmith, there were no jelly sandwiches

Some respondents have truly missed their calling. Jay Leno ain't got a thing on a lot you guys. (complimentary spa package)image

Seems to be a complete waste of time. I used to have the Power Seller status missed my 1K mark one month, lost it and found that it made no difference in how people bid on my items so I never rejoined the program.

Also from many other comments over the years if you have the PS icon many people tend to think you sell cheap stuff for retail.
