Announcing the PCGS 2007 World Series of Coin Trading™
- February 20, 2007
Which coins would you buy if you had a million dollars to spend on rare coins? And, if some of your coins went up (or down) sharply in price, when would you sell them and what coins would you buy to replace them?
Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), in conjunction with the PCGS.com website and the PCGS Online Price Guide, is sponsoring a national rare coin trading contest open to all members of the PCGS Collectors Club.
The PCGS 2007 World Series of Coin Trading is similar to the just concluded PCGS 2006 contest, with a few important changes. First, the contest is only open to collectors, i.e. non-dealers. Second, thousands of new coins have been added to the PCGS Online Price Guide data base, so you have a lot more rare coins to choose from. Finally, in order to maintain the contest as rare coin contest and not a "speculating on gold bullion prices" contest, gold and platinum U.S. Eagles are not allowed in World Series trading portfolios.
$10,000 First Prize
The PCGS 2007 World Series of Coin Trading runs from March 1, 2007, until December 31, 2007. Winners are determined by the amount of gain in price for your individual portfolio. Cash prizes are awarded as follows. There is a $10,000 prize awarded to the first place yearly winner, i.e. the trader whose coin portfolio goes up the most by December 31, 2007. There are also $1,000 quarterly prizes awarded in to each trader whose portfolio goes up the most in each of the three quarters ending June 30, September 30, and December 31.
The rules are simple and trading is exciting. Prices are based on the PCGS Online Price Guide and coin availability is based on the PCGS Population Report. You can buy any coin you want for your portfolio, up to the portfolio size of $1,000,000, as long as the coin is listed in the PCGS Online Price Guide. The price you pay to add a coin to your portfolio is the price listed in the PCGS Price Guide. But here's the catch, and one of the most exciting parts of the PCGS World Series of Coin Trading competition. You can "buy" as many of a specific rare coin issue as desired with the following two limitations; you can only "buy" a maximum number of a coin equal to the current PCGS Population, and you can only "buy" a coin if other traders haven't yet purchased every coin available according to the PCGS Population Report. So for example, if a certain coin has a PCGS Population of 10 coins in a certain grade and other traders have already added 5 of those 10 to their portfolios, you could only "buy" a maximum of 5 of that coin for your portfolio. And if the entire PCGS Population has already been added to the portfolios of other traders, you can't add that coin to your portfolio until some of those coins have been "sold" by other traders.
You Can Trade Your Million Dollar Rare Coin Portfolio Every Day
You can add and subtract, i.e. "buy" and "sell" coins for your portfolio as often as you like…once a month, once a week, once a day, or even more often if you choose. The prices used for both the buy and sell transactions are the prices listed in the PCGS Online Price Guide for the day of your trade. So there's no disadvantage to frequent trading. You can add and subtract coins to your portfolio as frequently or as infrequently as you choose. Just have fun trying to maximize the value of your own million dollar rare coin portfolio. Your personalized, password protected, online portfolio tracking screen will show you which coins you have and how you're doing. Your portfolio tracking screen will also enable you to see the prices and PCGS Population "availability" for every coin listed in the PCGS Online Price Guide.
