  • Natalie was a close friend with the well known old time numismatist Harry Forman from Pa. and traveled and shared space with him at many shows. I am not sure but I believe she is still around.
Very nice lady, don't remember much about what she dealt in, for awhile when I last saw her (20 yrs ago?) I know she got serious into vintage Police and Fire badges-

Ps. Might I add, Harry Forman probably handled (not sure if he directly sold) some of the rarest philly mint errors known, he had legendary connections...

    Hope that helps

    Here are possibilities.

The Social Security Death Index also has two Natalie Halpern entries with NY state issuances: one was borni 1907 and died in 1998 in Seattle, the other was born in 1918 and died in 1984 in Queens.

I knew Natalie well, and know that she lived in NYC and passed away about twenty years ago, so the second listing may be her.

What did you wish to know about her?

  • i also knew natalie pretty well. i think she was at least 20 years younger than the person born 1918. i could be wrong but i'm sure she would be glad to hear me say that, too. i wasn't aware of her death and am sorry to hear that. natalie's business was major errors, and she had some fantastic inventory. i particularly remember a barber half brockage. i bought and sold more than a couple of 34 ddo wash. 25c's in ch bu from her. i'm sure tom d. remembers how often she provided pics for collectors clearinghouse back then. the police badges and patches were her hobby.
  • A gentleman that just sold me a raw 43 D/D lincoln cent used to deal with her and, I believe, a coin shop somewhere in NY. He sent me the following email earlier today...so I told him I would post and see if anyone on the boards knew anything about her. For all of those that have replied so far, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I have provided Jerry with the link to this post so he will be able to read these responses himself. image

Does the name Natalie Halpern ring any bells to you? She used to be a bigshot in Error collecting back in NY during the 1970-80's Been
trying to track down what her coin shop address was in NY. I need to fill out some paperwork with the post office for a Dead letter form and I need her old coin shop address. Like I said its a long shot. Not sure if she's even still collecting errors or coins or even alive.

Did she even have a shop? I thought she just did shows and mail order.
Anybody got some old error coin magazines?

  • Natalie is gone , passed away in the late 80's I believe after severe Viral infection.

She was the Queen of errors back in her day and one of the people who boosted my interest in them in the 70's

  • I remember buying errors from Natalie; she periodically put out a nicely illustrated small catalog of error coins. As I recall, she hated to get up before noon, but you could call her very late at night if you wanted to order anything.

I have a copy of the same catalog Mike Byers linked above, that was one of the most impressive error collections I've ever seen. To your inquiry, ellewood, it also has Natalie's PO Box address on the cover.

I got into error collecting a little too late to have known her, but other NY-area error collectors and dealers I know speak of Natalie in the most reverent terms. Fred Weinberg might be a good brain to pick if you want more information about her life and death.

8 years later I'm still awaiting FredWienberg's reply image

Seriously I also have had the Milt Cohen sale catalog for years and was in grade school when Natalie Halpern was active in mint errors. Glancing over the catalog I always wanted to know more about her as a dealer and what other neat fidos she handled?
