BEATING TWO DEAD HORSES AT ONCE

A local TV website has been running a survey about the Washington Dollars.

76% of respondents feel the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" should be more prominently displayed.

edited because survey has been removed.

God shouldn't be on coins. Why God? Why not In Beelzebub We Trust?

  • << <i>God shouldn't be on coins. Why God? Why not In Beelzebub We Trust? >>

I'm pretty sure we keep this deity on our coins as a method of appeasement. As I understand the situation, he is pretty powerful/jealous/wrathful and all that. I say we keep him on.

It should be noted that God is not a name but a title. To some Beelzebub is a god, to some, he's a nuisance! Everybody has their own particular name for a God and their own specific beliefs. The romans had hundreds, the greeks had quite a few as well. I think the term is more specifically related to belief in a higher power guiding the steps of the country but obviously cannot speak for anyone but myself. I do not have a problem with the motto as it is totally generic in nature.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

If God were here reading this thread right now, do you think He would actually want to be on our coins? I'd say probably not.

Come to think of it, neither would George Washington. Not that Washington is/was God, but I'm just sayin'.

Sure are, and a lot of them free because of America, and Americans. and of course our alliesimage but which ones of them have the motto on their coinage??? How many have "one nation, under god" in their pledge?? How many of their founders, knew and made decisions because of and based on "divine intervention"??image

  • I think the coin should say..."Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick"

  • ...remember George Carlins' 1970's (?) rap about US money...went something like this..."1st we had Gold Certificates, we could count on the fact that we could redeem our cash for good old solid gold...then the government dropped the Gold Standard and switched to Silver and Silver certificates...then we could exchange our cash for Silver...maybe not as 'good' as gold but silver none-the-less...THEN they dropped the silver standard and all we had left was a piece of paper with a 'guarantee' from a government we weren't sure we could trust --- with the motto "IN God We Trust"...well, at least we could count on good old God...But then --- Life Magazine put out an issue with a cover that read "God Is Dead !!"... now what are supposed to do???"...Peace
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

Lol. Nice. I guess without the gold and silver standards, we have to trust someone or some institution to keep using using that fiat money!

My father is God? I guess that makes me the Son of God.

If I get thirteen guys to follow me around do you think I can get people to worship me?

It is OK to beat dead horses, it helps tenderize the meat. However I am strongly against beating live horses.
