Picture of the best looking Presidential $1 I could find from a roll

This was the best I could find out of a $25 roll (Denver mint). Perhaps, as someone suggested in another thread, the quality would be better from a mint bag (?).

MS63...64 tops on a good day. Typical quality for these coins. Mint bags will be no better but more expensive. Nice pic by the way!!

Wow, I went through a roll yesterday and the worst one was about that quality. The range I saw was about 64-66.

Pretty bad if this is the best. What, maybe 64 here? Not that I'm an expert at grading these...

I spent four of them on the roach coach at work today that were better than that. High grade coins are going to be hard to find in my mind.
I think we will have to wait for the mint set coins to see grade collectable coins.
  • I agree, looks like most will be 63-66. Maybe we might see a 70 with ANACS.

Looks 64. The rims are pretty banged up.

Just curious, Am I taking it that you believe ANACS is liberal with 70's on moderns. I always though they were pretty conservative with moderns, what have they loosened up or something.

I think ANACS was a bad choice. Should have chosen a third world like SGS for the example.

I have better that I opened and am using as a pocket/conversation piece right now.
    Not even joking.

I figured that since I didn't get them until 2/16 and couldn't get first day of release marketing *stuff* on them, it wasn't worth sending in.

Agreed, unless you find an MS68+ although you still have to send in 100 to get the presidential label. image
  • SGS would have been a better choice. But I have had luck with ANACS for some modern.

MS65 will be tough. MS66 will be very tough. MS67 will be rare. MS68 will be an very rare. All these Johny come lately modern submitters who think they have 66+ coins are clueless. This coin in 67 will be a true conditional rarity. These coins are on average 63 or worse. Mark my modern crap words.

I agree. I went through 1000 on the 15th. Some entire rolls looked circulated or even damaged. Luckily, some rolls contained some good ones. Out of 200, I expect 10-15 66's, maybe a 67

I don't think MS65 will be that tough, actually. At least not from the "D" mints I have seen. Of course, a lot of it depends on how much grading weight they put on the "3rd side".....the edge is actually one of the worst part of the coins I have looked at.

MS66 may be tough. MS67 tougher. But, I think MS65 will be quite doable (depending on how many sent in...and since many were sent in sight-unseen due to the demand of being there day of issue, I think we will see a lot more lower grades than you otherwise would and that will give the perception of difficulty)

  • Thats not very good. I finaly got 5 at a bank today near Columbus. All 5 looked better than that one.

I'd like to see a pic of a 66. I am skeptical one exists.
  • kiyotekiyote Posts: 5,588 ✭✭✭✭✭
I found a few in two Denver rolls that were almost mark-free. Very sharp, from String and Sons at the bank.

    Whose MS66? PCGS? NGC? Yours?
I am sure if someone takes a blows up a pic big enough, whether MS66 or MS67, people will look to find extra flaw with it.

That said, I will wait and see what NGC and PCGS feel is a MS66+ and then think about what to do with some of mine (depending on pricing, etc).

There are a TON of these and I really have no desire to play the game with them, but if I see what the big guys feel is high end, and I think I have better, and the price is large enough, I may be game.

NGC or PCGS. Still have not seen one posted yet, raw or certified.

I don't look at NGC because on ultra-moderns I don't agree with their grading (polite way to say it and avoid controversy, I hope).

PCGS hasn't returned any graded coins yet. It will be interesting to see the grades when submitters get some back. --jerry
