If we (as the coin collecting public) demanded that they put on their lables "2nd Day of Release" or "Third Day of Release" then I'm sure they would do that as well. They are a business, trying to make money, and they will do whatever they think will make them the most money.
So, back to your original question, they will absolutely recognize the "no edge lettering" error on their labels.
That does not seem likely, since the law requires that information to appear on the coin. If the problem persists they will be required to either fix the problem or redesign the coin. If the problem cannot be fixed, this may become a one of a kind type coin.
Either way, it does not seem likely that the mint will allow too many of these dateless, godless coins.

It appears that there are at least 3 or 4 varities out there in fair quantities already, may very well be the case that this is a VAM paradise.
