Well, I've only got a fiance but I voted anyways. I voted "not care at all". It didn't used to be that way though. After I did a major sell off of my entire collection a few years back and realized about a 250%-300% profit she eased up a bit. Then, after I sold two individual coins for well over 1000% of purchase price she was tamed.

my wife is the best. She enjoyed the cherrypick story today and she loves that I have passion about a hobby that doesn't involve drugs, alcohol, hookers, or driving too fast.

I voted "not care at all," but that's not strictly true. She trusts me to not spend more on coins than we can afford. And as I've been pretty good about that, she's cut me a lot of slack and basically let me do what I want to do. I usually consult before larger purchases (roughly $500+) but less than that I mostly look at our checkbook, our stack of bills, and if there's enough left for the coins I want, they're mine.

I'm married, but I'm in charge image

She may not like what I spend, but the bills are paid, money is going into the kid's college fund, no bills except her car and the mortgage (well, no CC balances I should say), and we have food on the table and some money in the bank (for emergency), so she wouldn't like it (she doesn't understand coins) but she wouldn't do anything about it nor say anything much image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • My wife has a few expensive hobbies as well, although not nearly as much so as mine. She does spend a LOT on reading for example. She's doesn't know how much I've spent, duh, I mean invested. She tried to catch me a few mths ago, she said "And just how much do you spend on all those auction catalogues " I said " Honey, they're all free ". She hasn't bothered me since then. But I sense a tougher question coming before long.

I voted she would kill me. Although we don't have many bills and we both have great jobs, she just cannot understand the hobby. She often ask why I would spend $500. for one dime. I tried explaining to her that it;s like stocks sometimes win sometimes you lose, but she just does not get it. For now things are fine we both don't need the money, but if times change I can see the dimes going first.

My guess is that Mrs Longacre is so busy answering questions that she doesn't have time to ask any. Brialliant strategy, Longacre!

I voted that my wife would "Kill Me", but that is not strictly true. I believe that she knows that I spend a lot of money, but prefers to not know all the details. At any rate, I steer the financial ship and generally have done well for us in terms of investing, saving, and planning. Her needs are met, the family's present and future needs are met, and I have a hobby that keeps me around the house a lot (often chatting with friends on the computer image ). She could have it a lot worse!

I can honestly say that my spouse is neither approving or understanding. She is however moderately tolerant of what she considers a stupid waste of time and money.
In some ways this provides some counterpoint to an otherwise expensive and time consuming hobby. image

Well, I voted "not care at all"; although I'm sure that is not 100% accurate.

Although she's got no desire along "numismatic lines" she can be a tough critic on purchases; especially when she sees a picture of a purchase blown up to gigantic proportions.

Last year after some huge gains on "modern mint stuff" she's quiet about the classic collection growing. I think she's happy that its a hobby that I can mostly do from around the house ........................ as opposed to say my "fishing addiction" image

    None of these answers apply.

My wife know what I spend, she wants to make sure we can pay the bills, as long as that's okay then she just wants me to be careful.

Of course I bribe her with diamonds on occasion so she's got nothing to complain about.
  • My wife collects hummels so that leaves room for me to collect coins. She says it is my money, do what I want with it. Bills are paid and some left in savings for a rainy day.

I can't hide money things from my wife, she's a CPA and knows where ever dime goes around here. As long as I don't go overboard, she doesn't care what I spend.

  • I am in charge and I have her permission to say that!

As long as the bills are paid and we can still live our decadent lifestyle, she doesn't care.

She also never wants an anniversary or valentine's day present!! No kidding!

Is it any wonder why I love her? If I posted a picture of her, I would get a "you suck" award.

I wear the pants around this house you bunch of wimps! If I want a coin I get the coin. Simple as that..............wait she just pulled into the driveway...........I'll get back to you guys as soon as I clear my desk of my auction bills.
  • I'm not married, but if i was, i'd be quite okay with it. I would like to be kept generally aware, and if there was a "super hot, gottahavit, killerdiller" coin coming up for grabs, I'd be willing to sell other stuff, juggle some to make it happen. But on the other hand, he better do the same for me on my hobbies.

For the record, I have a husband, not a wife....

He just doen't get the "coin thing," which is fine by me - but he can see all my emails and lets me know when he thinks I'm spending too much.

Then I sell off a few and we repeat the scenario.

None of these answers cover me; my wife knows I spend alot on coins, but she also knows that I buy at lower prices than I can sell and when I die the coins are hers. But honestly I cannot answer this yet because I am in the U.S. and my wife is still in the Philippines. Hopfully I will be able to bring her here at the end of March or beggining of April.
