Battle Creek Morgans...

...Absolutely none finer in the hobby, period. I've been doing a lot of research on toned Morgans and there is no doubt that the most beautiful examples over-all in the hobby are from the Battle Creek pedigree collection. I've tried to convince myself otherwise, but to no avail.

I don't think so. The BC Morgans are the most impressive pedigreed collection in the hobby, hands down. We all have our opinions, but arguing this point is an effort in futility. Of course, JMWO.

And thensome.
Elizabeth and I were fortunate to be a part of Brian's (Bryan? I never can remember how to spell his name...) "show and tell" at the Long Beach coin show (at TexasBullionTrader's table) about four years ago and each and every Morgan he took out of its Capital Plastics felt bag was a stand-alone color Morgan. Each was second to none- that is until the next Morgan was showed!
Edited to add:
All other Morgans pale in comparison and having viewed these terrific coins at the beginning of the show kind of placed a damper on the rest of the it!
Imagine going to a five star steak house and after your meal touring a whole bunch of Black Angus restaurants. That's how the rest of the show felt.

Bryan was kind enough to send me quite a few images of his Morgans. I also still have the Superior auction catalogs from the first four BC offerings. So, unlike diz, I can comment from an informed standpoint.
Russ's statement is absolutely true. It's not even close.

Can someone describe them in great detail?

Apparently they're pretty decent.
For me as a collector, if I were looking for beautifully toned Morgans, I would seek a Battle Creek pedigreed collection example before pursuing any others. They are natural, many are incredibly gorgeous, and they come from a find that has sparked so much interest over the last couple years, that IMO they will only grow in prestige.

<< <i>So, we're squarely in two camps. Those who have seen Bryan's coins say diz hasn't got a clue. Those who haven't seen Bryan's coins say they're not so hot
The only way to handle this debate professionally, respectfully, and realistically, as to which collection is more impressive, is to.........................
...flip a coin!

I've even sold him one, an MS67 end roller. I know the quality and uniqueness he seeks, and most of the BC hoard wouldn't even merit a second glance from him.

Odd...most of the BC hoard doesn't merit a second look from most people.

Mikey is the man ... if I was going to buy a toner for my collection, it would be from him. He is one of the few dealers out there from whom you will always get great product and great customer service. He should write a book ... his Morgan-related articles are stellar.

Hey Russ...
Bryan has some amazing coins. I think it was Annaconda who once said, after viewing Bryans collection, he had just seen the number
one and two collection of toned Morgans. Most of Bryans coins are WOW coins, and so are some of the best BC coins. The top BC coins would be right at home in Bryans collection.

I've got a bunch of crescent toned 1887-Ps that you couldn't tell the difference between it or a BC coin. They aren't in NGC * holders either.
There are also many collections out there that are kept private, and monsters none of us have seen.
<< <i>I'm familiar with stock forum pumpers, but this is the first coin pedigree pumper I've ever seen. Perhaps you are the only one.

If they're not in Star* holders, there's likely a reason for it.
