State quarter dump!

jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 9,781 ✭✭✭✭✭
I just dumped 100 + rolls of State quarters into the bank this evening from a collection I picked up. All unc rolls of various states back to 1999, but not worth my time and trouble to retail them or sort them. All I did was check for the various poular errors like the rotated reverse conn, etc.

  • you could of put all on the bay in one lot and got more than face.
    my ebay items BST transactions/swaps/giveaways with: Tiny, raycyca,mrpaseo, Dollar2007,Whatafind, Boom, packers88, DBSTrader2, 19Lyds, Mar327, pontiacinf, ElmerFusterpuck.
  • Someone in CW recently had some theory that all the state rolls from the earlier years are being dumped at banks or someothing. I didn't know that anyone was getting rolls of quarters for investment reasons, but they must have been.

Were they bank or mint rolls?

Either way the 1999 rolls could have made some money on e-bay with little or no effort.

Alright, let's see... 100 rolls at $10 each roll... Carry the one... add the 5.... drop the remainder... divide my the GNP.... and we get... A thousand bucks in Quarters?

Damn that must have been heavy!

    Let's see....

1 State Quarter weights 5.67 grams....

    1 Gram = .0022 pounds

    1 pound = 453.6 grams

    100 rolls X 40 coins in each roll = 4,000 quarters

    4,000 X 5.67 grams = 22,680 grams

    22,680 / 453.6 grams (1 Pound) = exactly 50 lbs

How did you transport the coins?

  • I have quite a few in storage, I was looking at Ebay on Bank rolls, I should have put the money into stocks or some kind of fund for a better return. I may list them on the bay, but for the time, trouble and money I am not sure.

pay ebay the listing fees, the selling fees the paypal fees and the shipping costs makes just going to the bank a really good idea. I have 20 or 30 rolls mostly California and a few Nevada, any varieties there?
I seldom check PM's but do check emails often jason@seated.org

Twice that amount would be 100 lbs image
  • I recently has a guy offer to sell me $1,400 in original bank rolls all the way back to 1999 for $1,690. I turned him down. He later sold them to a coin dealer for $1,600. He would have made more putting the money in the bank. I just can't see a time where you will be able to get anything over face for anything BUT an error.
  • Back in the day I did sell some bank rolls for a premium...Delaware for about $50 a roll, Georgia, $35 a roll, New Jersey, $30 a roll. 2001 Sacs for $75 a roll. You gotta love Ebay.

Flip this coin from the mint or bank....Flip this house.
  • I took 20 uncirculated band and mint rolls to the last show I attended knowing I would spend them for face to buy something I needed and most dealers didn't even want them as payment.

I dumped a ten dollar bill at Taco Bell today.

They only gave me back a couple of dollars,
    but I ate the difference.

I did sneak out with a couple of napkins
though. I plan to put those to good use!!

Set up a table at a coin show...if the table doesn't cost much, or you already have other items that would account for the table cost, then sell the quarters (if BU) for $0.50 each. People do buy them for their albums.
Sell them on ebay for 35c each and charge $1.50 or $2.00 shipping. You will make money but it won't be a lot nor that much fun...still adds up though.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I just dumped $500 in US Mint $25 bags at our bank the other day. I checked e-Bay and it wasn't worth my effort plus the commissions. I just glad I stopped collecting when I did.

USPS Priority Mail flat rate box, $8.10.
  • Rolled them and them put them in 5 $100 plastic bags. Put the 5 plastic bags in a bucket and took them to the bank.

I would believe this. At the store that I work at, I opened three different hand quarter rolls. One was all circ Delaware, one was all circ Maryland and the last was all circ Pennsylvania. Someone must have decided that hanging onto the circ rolls he put together wasn't worth it. Should have been smart like the local crook-dealer and sold sets of 1999 for $5.

  • I will buy 1999 Unc. rolls. $11.00 a roll. Put 25 rolls or more in flat rate box, I will cover shipping! image
  • You wouldn't want mine that were in a Mint bag. They were junk.

As others have said, the e-bay fee's and trouble for little to no profit, is not worth it to me. I only purchased them at face, so its a wash as far as I am concerned. I Bank the face value stuff and concentrate on the better stuff. The IKes I dont bank, becuase I have a local flea market dealer who will buy them at 1.20 each, now again, if it were for just 20c premium, off to the bank they would go however, if a big deal or group of nice coins walks in his way, he will call me first!!!!

It would take a box with wheels to haul those. Maybe a seat, steering wheel and engine too
