I just recently became a member of the Original Hobo Nickel Society. I've no actual hobo nickels yet, but I have some Hobo Tokens from the Gallery Mint Museum and a couple of Del Romines tokens that I just ordered today. I'd like to try my hand at carving some nickels myself, but don't know just what tools to use. I've already carved my finger trying with my little Buck penknife.
Since I'm poor as a hobo and old school too, like that, I'd be more interested in hand carving tools. I've seen some wood carving hand tools, but they say they are only good for soft wood, not a copper nickel alloy. A couple of hand hammered minters that I know of use dremels for engraving their dies. One of them uses dentist quality diamond drill bits.
