With all of the Submittals that go to PCGS, why Aren't American Eagles allowed in the World Series?

It just seems to me that if PCGS is willing to certify them, the Silver, Gold, and Platinum Eagles ought to qualify in the World Series Trading Competition.

Historically, most of these coins were influenced by precious metals fluctuations about the same as common gold, but many of them have now dissociated themselves from metals prices, having developed their own premiums, just like "classic" coins had done.

These coins are a specialty area every bit as much as any other. They can fluctuate up or down. I think that if Bullion Eagles are being included in Population Reports and certified by the thousands by PCGS, the same status should be given to them in the competition criteria.

    Because they aren't coins...simply bullion.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Gold and platinum Eagles were excluded from this year's World Series of Coin Trading contest because a person could totally sleaze the contest by having multiple accounts, accumulating bullion related positions and using his "A" account to make bullion purchases on a day when gold goes up. Many gold and platinum eagles are very closely related to the price of gold bullion and the PCGS price guide changes only on a daily basis. If we changed bullion related gold and platinum eagles on a minute to minute basis, following the price of gold and platinum on the commodities exchanges, then we could have them in the contest.

There are rarities in the gold and platinum eagle series. Obviously the 70s and the lower mintage dates. But our programming is such that this year we can only exclude eagles as a group. Maybe next year we can have the rarer Eagles eligible. But until we change bullion prices instantaneously we are not going to have the more common gold and platinum Eagles in the contest.

We want the World Series of Coin Trading to reward the coin enthusiast who does his research and picks the coins that go up the most. We don't want to reward a person who hoards gold and platinum coins in several accounts and then uses increases in commodities prices...after the fact...to falsely give the impression he actually is good at picking the right coins.
