Anyone recognize this 1921-D Morgan variety?

There's a thicker crack/break between the 1 and 2 of the date, some metal between the denticles across from the 6th star to the left of the date, and a heavier crack/break between the first T and the A of STATES on the reverse.

Blackhawk, sorry I don't have answer for you, but what equipment / photoshop filter did you use for these photos? If you like you can PM me to maintain the flow of the thread. Thanks. rel

There are a number of common ones like that with no breaks and, thereforefore, no special designations. Only special one that comes to mind would be a possible early state of the VAM-1P, which then would just be VAM-1.

It probably isn't either of these, but I think VAM 1AS has a bunch of cracks in the date and VAM 1o has a small "pennant" die break atop the A in STATES, of which yours might be an early die state.

Your PM function is not turned on, so I'll answer here...

I have a Sony Mavica MVC-CD250 still camera and take the whole coin photos against a piece of felt. The close-ups are done with the same camera through one lens of a microscope.

  • Here is a coin I bought recently that I believe might be a 21D VAM-1AS. I really should send it to Messydesk or Rob to take a look at it.

It seems to be a late die state with somewhat different crack orientations on the reverse as compared to the illustrations at VAMworld. There is also an area above STATES and other strong die polishing lines in other areas on the coin that also might suggest a later die state.

See if yours might match up to some of the features on your coin.

  • Here are a couple of die breaks illustrations I made a feeble attempt using Rob's templates for the VAM1AS.

The ones for the VAM-1AS at VAMworld are for the VAM-1AR when you scroll over the image.

It's been so long since I posted over there, I forgot how to do it. image

I don't think that the coin is any of those shown. The crack between the 9 and 2 is very heavy and in more of a arc that the others, which appear to be made of two straight cracks that are joined together.

I believe that there is a VAM designation for all of them.

We call the ones without VAM designations, new finds....temporarily.
