Opinion on grade.......

I'm not very familiar with this series, I was hoping a few of you might offer up an opinion on the grade of this Peace Dollar. There are a few slide marks that don't show up in the photo and are only visible in direct bright light. I believe they were caused by the slide on a Dansco or something simmilar. The coin has very vibrant luster.
Thanks,

JJ

I'm just curious why you say AU. I don't see any wear on the coin and no luster breaks while rotating the coin.

OK MS61/62 Looks like a lot of chatter.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • It may just be the way that the light is hitting the coin on the picture...between 2-3 o'clock past the "ca" it looks to me like wear...and it also carries to the top of the eagle's right shoulder...it could very possibly be a shadow, and if there is not wear, then I would probably say MS 62...based on the contact marks...but since you have it in hand, obviously you would know if there is rub.
  • I think this series is most difficult to photograph anywhere near accurately.

Too much light saturation to see any luster. Looks like a very nice strike but a lot of chatter. Either AU58 or low MS.

    MS-61/62
    Trade $'s
  • MS 62....Although, I would not be suprised to see this coin in a 63 holder.

Need better pictures to say for sure...try holding a piece of white paper between your light source and your camera.

Very low end Ms like 60-61
  • Technically it is mint state, but there's lots 'o rub on that coin. And all in the primary focal areas. So it's a 55-58.

This is just an area of weak strike. It is not a high point on the coin, so you will not find wear there, at least on this one.
