Mpeter, Ease up. The side shot looks like the coins are held between a white tissue or cloth, which being further away is out of focus.

Gotta give the guy some credit. He joined the boards just to defend himself!

Hey Chicago Ron, looks like you have a double error there. No edge lettering AND off-metal!

Take apart a flash light and put the coin in the reflector. You will get a picture of the coin and the edge!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Mad Marty : I am impressed with your knowledge of geometrical optics. However there is that thing ya gotta do with a camera to get a picture!!

It's real easy to just put the coin on a table, snap a clear photo and be done with it.

Really? how about you give some of us a tutorial then? I have tried with my digital camera and can't do it.

    Good for you.

How many people have them just laying around?
I didn't know about them for MONTHS after I got back into collecting.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I met the seller of this coin at a local coin show.... he was showing it to all of the dealers... seemed to be legit... said he had looked through lots of rolls and found it...
  • Options
...but the new text on the auction listing makes it seem like he has a lot more than one coin.

    I dont buy it.

Wow. I admit, it (the auction price) has gone way higher than I thought it would, and still a few days to go.

Those who think you can simply buff the edge lettering away and still maintain a nice, even round surface, I'm betting have worked very little with metal. As others have stated, filling the lettering first and then smoothing is the best way to acheive the look, but even then, it's not as easy as some are making it out to be. Try it, and then post your results and compare it to a Sac edge. The difference will be obvious.

I think his coin is a legit find, but then again I thought that newly acquired coin collection poster was legit too. Oh that's right, he was.

Ok. I'll challenge you. Do it and post your results. You'll be suprised and frustrated. --Jerry

It was only 3 weeks ago that I predicted the edge lettering of the new dollars would be a good place to look for errors. Can someone link to that thread??
