He's doing it on way too recent material. The toning might be pretty but is also not convincing to me.
Much of what is accepted as NT in the Morgan series I don't believe is. Go back to the Continental Bank release and you pretty much saw the concentration of truly interesting toners. There were some bag toned and end-rollers additionally, but not anything like the numbers on the market currently in respectable holders ven. That isn't even considering the Battle Creek ones.
There is an on-line website that advertises a toning solution that produces these colors, and as more folks find it, I suspect we'll see an unending parade of these "clown coins".
coins don`t tone overnight, it takes years naturally. the coins this guy is selling are AT all the way. some of his coins are a little older but he has 2005 coins with heavy toning. RED FLAGS!!!!! i`ve stated here many times.... i work in an electroplating/metal finishing shop. if it is monster toned and its modern.....RUN FAST!!! RUN VERY VERY FAST!!!!!
Look at what's happening here. Look at those discolored coins being sold as desirable, just because they have colors all over them. This toning craze had gotten so silly it's not possible to do satire on it.
This is completely preposterous. The world has gone stark raving bonkers.
His latest batch of jefferson proofs seem really dorked up for some reason- very spotty, splotchy, and colors that don't go well together... Maybe he's been experimenting with his recipe...
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
When someone has 80 listings with modern coins all having bright neon colors and described as "monster toning", you start to wonder if someone isn't playing with chemicals. 79 coins...maybe, but 80, hell no!
I don't see how anyone can remotely think this dealer has gotten so good at his doctoring he will fool anyone. Those are blantantly AT. If a TPG grades any of these they need to rethink their standard on "market acceptable".
<< <i>So sad ---my brothers are paying big bucks for this stuff. >>
Well, get AT into some good plastic and lots of people will pay big bucks for color, whether it's on moderns, Morgans or Gobrechts.
If people really like this kind of color, I think it would be better to get them to try and make it themselves rather than to pay lots of money for it. This is similar to my recommendation for FS: order from the Mint and submit yourself for FS rather than buying on the secondary market.
Russ has a point, maybe not with this guy getting too good to fool anyone, but if people do come up with a "recipe" to artificially tone coins where graders cannot decipher them from NT, it will put an end to premiums for toned coins, and everyone will eventually just accept that toning may or may not be naturally occuring over time. Sort of like how everyone accepts dipping coins or acetone baths as acceptable now. Anyway, when the demand for toned coins drops because so many ar AT, the scammers will lose their motivation for cooking these, which would actually help the hobby. And if these products are readily available to the public, people can just buy a bottle and tone their own coins--why pay someone else to do it?

I was documenting a bunch of end toners from a stash of Roosie Rolls that I was lucky enough to buy. None of them are neon.
This guy is trashing a bunch of coins, and selling them to fools. I can only imagine that he is using chemical stews which are much more concentrated and reactive than what exists in the surrounding environments when natural toning occurs.
Does anyone have a feel for what happens to AT coins in a few years? Do they turn into crud, or do they stay the way they are now?

There are many a coin that appear NT that aren't and many that appear AT that aren't. What the services look for is market acceptability. They have no way of knowing how a coin comes by its color.

So, does this mean we are near the peak of toners/rainbows?
Thanks Russ for the post...an eye opener.
Some of the moderns actually look better...one could consider this as an enhancement program.
Most of the coins look AT and not even good AT. Unfortunately some of the coins look very similar to coins that you already see in some TPG holders.
Very sad turn of events. Things like this is what scared me away from the toner end of collecting even on coins that I felt were NT. If I can't trust myself it got very hard to trust the other guy.

IMO, that's only unfortunate if the similar looking coins already in TPG holders are NT. If the ones already in TPG holders are market acceptable AT, then this guy's better work may be "market acceptable" and he's just following in the footsteps of other market acceptable doctors....

What makes you think it hasn't already?
DOn't foget about red copper. That's been going on a lot longer than the toning fad.

<< <i>Oh yeah...that looks NT. Maybe I should post it on the pink coin thread.
Anyone who thinks this is an attractive collectible US coin deserves to pay an arm and a leg for it.
Believe it or not, but his photography is pretty accurate!!

When the US Mint starts selling NT stuff - what will you do then? Imagine a brand new BU-W Silver Eagle with toning like a Battle Creek Morgan.
