    Quoth the auction: "this is an aftermarket coin that has been altered since leaving the US Mint."

    I put it in the same category as painted coins. At least bidders aren't falling for it in quantity.

  • I tried to be sly and emailed the guy sometime ago about his coins like this. He was very forthcoming about the coin being altered, and it plainly says so in his auction. He's not scamming anybody, unless the buyer is too stupid to read.

    Not a scammer IMO, if bidders fail to read the description in which he clearly points out that they are altered then it's their fault if they overpay for the item.

    Correct. Yet his header says Proof. It is a scam.
