Pres. dollars and 1st day of issue/ new holders
Looks like I may posssibly be able to acquire the coins tomorrow. Question is: What do you all think.
Submit for grading if you can get them?
Heck no, you are looking at a couple grand in grading fees with no way to break even.
What say you. jws

I go with this option. Though I have a feeling that plenty here will think otherwise and starting hyping the First Day labels right after they get theirs.

Just a thought.
<< <i>I was thinking of doing it, buut I am not going to have access to the coins. I was thinking of maybe getting a few people to submit an order together and split it up.
Just a thought. >>
You can all get together and make a spreadsheet and track the daily market price for them, too!

Great idea. Thanks.
<< <i>Hi there from a newbie. I have just ordered a set of 20 (10 D and 10 P) with the "first day of issue" label from Shopathometv.com. Now I know that they are a ripoff, but this is a good deal. I got the 20 graded coins for $379.00. Now if you do the math, this is a good deal because it would cost you $15.00 dollars for each coin to get graded with the special label from NGC. Then you would have to ship the coins overnight which will cost you another $20.00 dollars or so. So lets do the math, 20 dollars for the coins + 300 dollars in grading fees + 20 dollars shipping overnight + return shipping 20.00 dollars = 380.00 dollars. This is not a bad deal............ >>
Just because you might have to pay more than $19 to "roll your own" doesn't mean they'll be worth $19 or more. Slabbing pocket change is not a guaranteed path to profit.

At what grade. BU gem.
You got screwed to the wall.
Cancell quickly.
P.S.......I would like to thank all the board members who influenced me on purchasing the "W" uncirculated platinum. A lot of tips from board members have made a regular guy like me a lot of money.
<< <i>To **GUINZO1975** if I'm not mistaken I believe they are graded BU coins???....don't mean to jump on a newbe but not a good deal..!! >>
This is correct. cancel your order. you will be glad you did.
It is one thing to hear good wisdom another to listen.

i saw those on tv. they are authenticated but not graded. they are labeled gem BU. it will be hard to sell and get any more than your cost. my advice is cancel if you can.
<< <i>The shop at home coins are fine as long as you never try to recoup your investment in them. You paid $379 for $20 worth of coins. Hard to see the good deal in that. You can probably get the grading fees out of coins graded MS66, but if these are just "BU", you can never sell them for close to what you have in them. >>
Enjoy.
<< <i>I disagree. These are the "first day of issue" label. I think most people are label collectors and not coin collectors. "first strike", "early release", "20th anniversary", etc...... Anything with a label brings back a premium. The coins are all the same, the labels are different. >>
"Anything with a label brings back a premium"? Wow, you're a marketer's dream.
Yes, they have a meaningless label that sometimes brings big bucks for no good reason. These, though, are also generic "BU" coins with no grade.
The craze over most of the stupid, meaningless labels is when they come in 69 or 70 holders, mostly. Not generic "brilliant uncirculated". Still it sounds like you're thrilled with your purchase, so I sincerely hope they are everything you hope they'll be and you can recoup your investment. I'm not hopeful, but you never know with this crazy coin market.
I still appreciate all your feedback guys.

Well said ..to enlighten a newbie..to teach and then to want to learn...!!!....Enjoy your coins......
<< <i>It is not about investment. This is about being sure that your coin is genuine, and the gem BU holders provide that peace of mind.
Good point; I suppose the new Presidential Dollars will be a hot target for the counterfeiters. Makes me want to pay $400 for $20 worth of peace of mind.

Edited to add
So somebody went to all the trouble of getting coins, sending to NGC, paying for whatever, sending them back..... and they aren't even graded?!?
Who the heck does that??
Steve
Gem uncirc for ms65 and lower.
The dogs are being sold off on T.V.
Assuming you can get the coins from the bank and off to PCGS tomorrow; would you do it?
I'm seriously considering it. The grading fees could be around 2 grand. I know it's a crap shoot and somewhat, well dumb, to gamble on a holder and a label.
I'm just thinking these may prove to be a decent investment if flipped quickly. Your thoughts. Would you do it? jws
<< <i>I would not do it, nor would I pay to buy one. >>
Aw..c'mon ..just one.??.......
fold it in half and stuff it back into your pocket.
Camelot
$6 a coin if 65 below, can also have them graded "brillant uncirculated" if they fall below 65
$10 a coin if 66
$12 a coin if 67
$15 a coin if 68
$20 a coin if 69
$30 a coin if 70
If you have all 65's it will cost $600.00 not including return insurance and shipping.
Its the higher grades that you will have to pay a lot. If you got 67's or higher I believe they may be worth submitting.
Box of 20
I'd do it if I had 3 other guys in with me. I guess.
I have the coins. I just don't have the balls.
Think i'll pass.

Here is the deal as I come to see it...Rationality nor logic comes into play with the new mint issues. There is a media machine that caters to a certain market niche of people. The media machine is HSN, CoinVault and I imagine QVC. The people are those who are addicted to this type of infomercial machine and they will buy what the machine tells them to buy. Coin collectors, maybe or maybe not. Coin conniseurs(sp), I think not.
The marketing is already done for you - plus you have the occasional spammer on this site.
Presidential dollars will be hot, short-term only. Buy em' and flip em' as fast as you can!
