SGS Grading Service?
Has anyone used this service? Are the grades given to coins the correct grades?
I really haven't paid that much attention to the grading services... I know that
PCGS, ANACS & others are available, but I hadn't seen SGS before.

Buying top quality Seated Dimes in Gem BU and Proof.
Buying great coins - monster eye appeal only.
They are a self-slabber that grossly overgrades coins and sells them themselves (i.e. obvious conflict of interest). Biggest scam on ebay.
overgrade 3-4 ticks. the way biggest problem is authentication. i read a thread on ebay that someone bought SGS gold (bad idea), and it was fake. 3-4 ticks overgraded and DO NOT BUY KEY DATES, commons only!!
and, SGS is a fine example of.......................caveat emptor.
carpe diem. (gotsta latin going today!!, big snow here).

Great company but they went out of business many years ago. I rarely ever see their slabs anymore.

I love that movie.
would probably get no higher than a 63 from PCGS.
Will probably put them all on ebay with a disclaimer and sell at no reserve. Or send them all back. Not sure yet.
Not exactly my cup of tea. The priest is essentially holding a crate of problems and needs help. If I'm having this much trouble with them, I can't even imagine what a civilian would do with them.

<< <i>I have dozens and dozens of them and am trying to figure out what to do with them. A church in the mid west has received hundreds of these types of slabbed coins and has shipped me a couple hundred of them. Most of them are proof modern coins although there's lincolns going back to the 1930's too.

Crack 'em out of the slabs and let the market decide what they're worth.
SGS grades are definitely a joke.
...unfortunately they are using a 200 point grading system

For sure on that last note. However it's not worth the time and effort to crack them all out. There's hundreds of them! That's why I think to either list them with a disclaimer ( and my opinion ) or send them all back. The problem I have with sending them all back is then the Reverend is essentially up that famous creek without a paddle.
I've emailed him and inquired as to WHO the "dealer" was that these originate from.
That should be most interesting eh?

Now, now, out of the many thousands of coins they've slapped in to their holders there must be another out there somewhere.

This is a serious exception to the rule. He got lucky. Expect a coin overgraded 5 pts. on average.

I agree that it is a super coin. SGS slabbing a coin like this one IMO is like a blind squirrel finding an acorn, it's bound to happen once in a while, but not very often.
