This has got to be the best Franklin Grade Ever - NOT!
COINB0Y

In our last episode, COINB0Y ignorantly (not that it mattered, now) submitted to PCGS a 1963 Franklin Proof in a PVC sleeve.
The victim was purchased on the ‘fine advice’ and urging of a local 87 year old, Coin dealer who shall go un-named.
Received the Body Bag today and I have taken autopsy Photos.
Edited in 3 minutes with Picasa2.
Can this Frankie be saved?
Taco Sauce?, Fire Hose?, Sandpaper?, Flame-thrower or delicate use of Chemicals? Better Yet, is it worth Saving?

Thanks in Advance to all!

It can be purchased at a hardware store that has a good assortment and it is not expensive.
I have sent 10 different coins to ANACS only to received them back with PVC marked on the flip (I only use mylar).
ANACS accepts the same coins back after cleansing (NOT CLEANING) and charges 5 dollars for slabbing.
Don't manhandle, rub, scrape, etc. just leave to soak in acetone for anywhere up to 7 days (according to how severe the PVC contamination is).
I have found that 2 to 3 hours usually is enough.
Use gloves to handle acetone (make sure that the material won't be "eaten" by acetone (so no latex, flimsy plastic, etc.) because it will burn your hands.
I wear goggles too (just to be on the safe side) because I wear soft contact lenses and as acetone fumes are fairly intense I want to avoid the contact lenses getting impregnated and thereby ruined.

My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
<< <i>Acetone it first, then dip it to remove the haze. Then sell it for $7 on ebay and don't waste any more submission fees. >>
No need to use Jewelluster here... acetone will remove the PVC haze...
42/92
.afterwards....I'll try to re-submit on a free-be
and if it comes back, me and my 3-year old daughter will put it in the Stuffed Animal Crane Machine at Target.
I'll let her take a shot at 2 claw drops.
If she wins, I'll take (and replace) the stuffed animal (when she's napping) and bring it over to the coin dealer and let him explain
THANK YOU again, TO ALL YOU PROFESSIONALS for the sound advice!
And this sure is a lot of drama over an ugly cheap coin
Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
Here is Frankie after almost two days in the Acetone w/o any dip.
Look at all the pitting from the PVC. I took these photos under a 60X magnification.
I could do him another 2-3 days, however all I will end up with is a 'moonscape' proof after all of the PVC is dissolved from the Coin.
It is very sad.
OK, thanks, Myqqy!
Isn't the grading fee higher than whatever realistic value they'll assign the coin.

It was a FREE submission.
