Ebay changed its format again.... I need help...

Some of you may not know, but Ebay has changed their format when you go to sell something. I can't for the life of me get a picture to come up in my listings. I host at "imageshack.com" and Ebays new format isn't taking any link from that site (website, forums or email html)

I've tried the "standard" format and html format on ebys site..... nothing....

help.. image

can someone post here what a link to a picture "should" look like....

The old sell your item form is still available. I've been using it and will continue to until eBay forces us to move to the POS crappy garbage terribly coded stupid ridiculous new form.

    I use:

<IMG src="image location URL"> with the old format.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

On the first sell page you'll see a link at the top that reads "List using the original Sell Your Item form."

I've been able to copy and paste the image file URL when using a hosting site as opposed to storing on my hard drive. Are you telling us this doesn't work now?

    Exactly...

A URL link that a host website provides to you that works now does not work in the new ebay format under the same circumstances (html format)

The best thing that could ever happen to eBay AND PayPal is if everyone would quit using them for a month. No better way to voice your displeasure with their crap than to direct your ire at their bank account.

An image link is the same in the new format as it is in the old format. Standard IMG tags. Just make sure you use "HTML", not "standard" when creating the body of the listing. I just used the new crappy POS form to create a test listing and IMG tags worked fine.

The year before last, I sold fourty grand in coins on ebay. Last year I sold ten grand in coins on ebay. So far this year, I've sold nothing on ebay... and have no reason to believe that will change over the next 10.5 months.

    Sorry I cant help. image
Have you tried embeding HTML code into the discription?

Just use the old Sell your item format, it's still available as an option and it works much better. The new format sucks giant donkey balls.

I just did a test with the new format, and didn't have any problem at all. Don't know what to suggest other than using the old format. I copied and pasted the image file URL from photobucket.com to the image file name box, and selected jpg. to the image file type box. A little slow to open, but it worked.

Have you quit selling altogether, or did you find an alternative venue that works better for you? And if the latter, where?

I like the old format better, but have tried both and they both work, on the new one, I use the HTML for the description section.

    This works for me:

I create my adds in frontpage and cut and paste the HTML into the ebay auction. No problems. Here is the HTML code that I just copied out of one of my auctions if that helps you at all:

    <p><a href="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l72/NoTwilight/obvslab-6.jpg"><img height="300"
    src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l72/NoTwilight/obvslab-6.jpg" width="217"></a>
    <a href="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l72/NoTwilight/obvcoin-8.jpg"><img height="217"
    src="http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l72/NoTwilight/obvcoin-8.jpg" width="217"></a>

    Good luck,
    Jerry

PS Not sure what the responses about boycotting ebay have to do with answering this guy's question

Thanks... I'll have to look into it later... anyone use "imageshack"... I may have to modify the link they give you to make it work... I'll try it in my next auction.

When you upload a pic there, ImageShack provides code for a variety of applications. I had not cleared my history on IE or logged out of IS for a long time and recently did so accidentally. On logging back in with their registration code that I had saved, I found they had changed their site a lot, all of my photoblogs went kaput and a lot of my coin images are missing. In addition, you can't tell from looking at the thumbnail exactly which coin pic you have if most of the obverses look alike, since the thumbnails only show about half of the pic.

So it sounds like it might be an imageshack problem. Photobucket accounts are free and easy. I recomend it but I've never tried imageshack.

They changed a few weeks ago. You can go "classic" though. I did. I didn't like the new format at Imageshack and found a link to go back to the old way. I forget what exactly it said, or where, but you should take a look at it. It took me back to the old way and all was well again.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Imageshack, Photobucket -- all those free image hosting services absolutely SUCK for eBay auctions. Don't use them -- your pictures will turn into Red X's at just the worst moment.

If your serious about this eBay thing, you should have your own webspace. Even if you use it just for storing pictures, it's better than the free ones.

Even if you're not serious about eBay, your ISP probably already provides you with a nominal amount of space. I think Comcast gives me 10 MB -- easily enough for a casual eBayer.

I listed a bunch of auctions yesterday using the old form and standard HTML img tags, and they all showed up fine.

    Really?

I've used Imageshack for a couple of years and have had 0 problems with hosting pics or ebay's auction with them.
I had an issue, for about 2 minutes, with their new format change, but went back to "classic", or whatever, and had no issues.

Never had this happen. Do you have a reason why this might happen or do you just think the services are unreliable? Using them for ebay is not a violation of the user agreeement. However, using ISP space to host ebay usually IS a violation and I did have pictures "turn to red x's" once years ago. I don't recommend using your free ISP space for hosting ebay photos.

I have had times on here and other sites where ImageShack photos get "lost" for a short time.

Can't speak for imageshack but with photobucket you can't delete the image
untill your auction is over. If you delete during the auction you get the imfamous
red X as the link no longer works. At least this happens this way to me!
I quit using that method for that reason. I just download from camera direct to
My Pictures and then upload to ebay from that format. Works well and just as
    easy, IMO.

Glad you guys are all having good experiences with the free hosts. If it works for you, great -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it, as they say.

some people who shop ebay at work (say it ain't so!) will not be able to view your imageshack or photobucket photos, since some companies block personal photo websites.

Wouldn't that be "by design"? If you link to a different location then you delete the file from that location, it isn't cached on ebay (since you didn't use them), so why wouldn't it show a red x?

    Seems quite logical to me.

Now, the thing that having it on your own (not ebay and not photobucket/imageshack) will do for you is that if you want to change that pic, without editing the auction (ie...you took a better pic or made a collage, etc....or, someone ripped off your pic and you want to get back at them) then hosting on your own makes that doable. I don't think you can change it on the free services.

shopping at work, for shame.! lol.

hopefully those folks bookmark the auction and then check it at home on their own time lol. If they want, i always email folks photos, but i get very few requests. It's funny, I dont have any friends, coworkers who have ever had problems with the blocked photos. guess we all work at liberal work places image

For the gallery picture, you don't put a link, you browse to the image on your hard drive. Ebay hosts the image, you don't need a link.
For pictures in your ad itself, you just put the link in the HTML edit window like you always did. There is no place to take any link from any site.
