Opinions on this '98 Wide AM Lincoln....

Picked this up at a local shop raw for $12. How'd I do?

You did OK. The price for the wide AMs has really fallen over the past year or two. The '98 in pocket-change AU was selling for $20-40 a couple years ago.

    Here's a pair (1998 and 2000) that only fetched $16 on ebay.

I think the coin exhibits good strike detail, full mint luster, and super eye appeal. It doesn't appear to have too many hits on the rim, fields or devices. A few milk spots on the reverse do not seem to detract and I don't see any carbon spotting, which is a PLUS.
I'm thinking you have an MS65/66 by PCGS standards and I also think for long term you did extremely well for that specimen. Kudos to your dealer for giving you a great deal, in my opinion.

From viewing the many I have, those are likely not hairlines on the obverse field, rather die polish lines.

I think you did ok also. This coin is scarcer than many believe. I have found 2 - 2000 lincolns with the wide AM but still have not found a 1998. (or 1999) Bob

rec78, although the 2000 Wide AM cent is the most common, the 1998 cent is not too far behind it. Me myself, Ive found 10 2000 Wide AMs and only 2 1998 WIde AMs, but no 1999 Wide Ams.

Of all the varieties of doubled dies, Wide AM's, wavysteps, etc. out there, the most common ones found in pocket change in my humble opinion are the 1998 and 2000 Wide AM's. You will find many other varieties I'm sure, but if you search rolls of pennies on a regular basis, you will find no other variety as consistently as these two. I've found over a dozen of the year 2000 Wide AM's and just under a dozen of the 1998 variety Wide AM, no 1999 Wide AM's as yet.
