Hey, this has got to be the best Franklin Grade Ever!

6704 1963 50C US PR99 <--------

Purchased for $28 from a dealer who thought it would be a good buy for me, a few weeks before Christmas.

It was submitted in a pvc holder.

I think PR99 is PCGS code for a body bag... They used to list those codes on the site somewhere, but I can't find them now.

edited to add - If I'm right, hopefully PR99 is the code for PVC...

Uh, no. It's probably a data entry error.

Thanks for 'getting my hopes up', Russ.

I think they just need to flip that first 9 and make it a 6, and we're all fixed, right?

Man, I should have just took it out, spit on it, wiped it with some toilet paper and they would have never know the difference.

But noooo....I had to do it the right way...not touch the blasted thing....just leave it alone and send it in...the right way.....what a chump I am on this one!

Nice guys do finish last, boys, mark that down.

    Screwed by a dealer.

    I'd kill him, but he's 81. image

I've just made my own case for NEVER, EVER buying anything non-slabbed from a dealer.

NEVER EVER. Can not be trusted, even at 81.

Multiply my little $28 'incident' by thousands of beginners and you can see why you dealers NEED the US Mint just to intice the new suckers flowing in to buy your classic crap.

I've sent many coins to be graded for which I paid in that range, some even less.

Wow, you are overreacting a bit, no? Did you not look at the coin first? Why send in a 1963 proof half dollar anyway? The only way it would have been worth the money was if it was graded deep cameo. I think you need to take this as a lesson. Consider it grading tuition. Be more careful in the future, and thank your lucky stars it was only a $28 coin.

-His coin looks to be 'worth' $28. Yours were probably valued much higher than you paid for themimage

    rampage, I'm kiddin' around, jeez.

Yeah, he screwed me, but at 81 he only can screw so many more people.

It still didn't pay for me to do it straight at PCGS.

Everybody is assuming that PR99 actually means it was bodybagged. These oddball grade numbers frequently show up and the coin is actually graded at some correct number.

    Coinboy,

What does the submission result say? What happens if you enter the cert number in cert verification? If it was bodybagged, it would return that the number is invalid.

You should follow the advice of that guy on here, what's his name, who advises buying mint products and sending them unopened to the grading service of your choice.

Exactly! Look, I think of myself as a blind pedestrian. I know my limitations.

Just as you should not dare to enter my world, I should not enter your world.

In my world, I could make you cry over the mistakes you could make. I'd know you made them, but you'd never know you made them untill it was far too late.

In your world, I hate stepping off the curb into lanes of on-coming traffic (dealers) whose drivers know the speed limit, know where all the cops are, and who really don't care for peds like me.

    Well forwarned is forarmed.

    Thanks Russ.

Right now all of the coins in the submission are not validated yet. I am in that limbo between OK and Shipped.

You know as I think of of it, I might have slid from the vinyl into a plaastic PCGS flip, but I can't be certain. Goldbully's link says it's dead.

The coin was really nice and I sure as hell can't figure out what would be wrong. The relief was good, lots of details in the Bell, it was a proof for sure. I will post a picture when I get it.

It true and it is PVC'd, I will just stick to US Mint stuff.

I just don't have the time to learn it to prevent getting screwed every other purchase.

If the coin was BB'd for PVC, it could still grade after having the PVC removed, so don;t damn the geezer that sold it to you yet.

    Coinboy,

Exactly where are you getting this PR99 grade? From your submission results? If so, the coin did NOT bodybag. If it did, your results would look like this:

    6704 1963 50C US PVC

    Not this:

    6704 1963 50C US PR99
