I think PCGS is getting tighter on the plat gradeing. I sent in 6 different submissions of 2006w plats the first one was about 60% MS70 the last one was about 20% Ms70. My 2006w AGE submission came back with about 8% MS70. But these were still a good buy from the mint.

I wish I could time travel back to December and buy more. I never expected the prices to go up this much in only one month. I remember the '04 plat proofs. They rose steadily and relentlessly, but not as dramatic as this!

If we are luckly those that do not understand what they have will sell at this level to those with strong hands. This would be a very good thing to get the short sighted out of the way and then the market can REALY tighten up.
I am one of the sellers, it is dollar cost averaging. Right now there is a fair profit on the table. None of us honestly know what the prices of these will be. If one did know that these would be $4K in a year it would be foolish not to keep buying. That would be a heck of a return. I will tell you that I have a few of these and if I knew they for certain they would be 4K in a year I would hold on to them. You just don't know for sure, my goal was to sell enough to get my investment back and then sit. With the prices the MS70's are going for I have a few going back for regrade.
The current market is screwed because of all the $2500 BIN's. Some selling for less that don't have BIN's! Obviously, too many sellers went overboard and needed some cash back and are flipping these faster than pancakes! It's really hurt the current market with the overall collective group of sellers dumping them on Ebay. Currently, way too much supply on MS69's.
My observation is sellers dumping loads of $100 MS69 Plats for $2500 BIN to make a quick buck and not allowing many auctions to run their course to determine what buyers will REALLY pay for them!
Buyers are paying about 3-4 times the price of the other coins in MS69 but the $100's are a 'dime-a-dozen" @ $2500 and only generating 2x as much their price.
That may actually strengthen the long term market. What you see are one and two coin sellers, none of them have much stock. Why would you or any one care what the price was today or tomorrow if you are holding for the long term? We seem to be at a resistance level with $2500, percentage gain is not as great as the fractionals but you are talking about a $1000 gain, that is big to some. Plus you are talking about people forking out some big dollars for a coin, the number of people able to do this is not as big as the $1000 coins. The last resistance level was $2250, now $2500, the trend is still up. Hey I have two real auctions going I would love to see the BIN's vanish, including mine. Personally I have a set schedule, that I am sticking to regardless of what the market wants to do. If the market would support $3500 why aen't all the $2500 coins being sucked up. Its a different deal with the $100, IMO.

It's 1996, and you are sitting on some Proof 1995 "W" Silver Eagles in the 10th Anniversary Sets. You've already seen the coin go from about $200 to $400, but you think that it should be around $600, because the mintage of 30,000 was so low.
You sure could use some cash for some of the 1997 stuff that is coming out in a few months. Do you buy more of the 1995 "W"s, or sell the ones you have because they aren't up to $600 yet?

Nobody has a crystal ball. In fact, nobody even has an accurate number of platinum collectors, how deep their pockets are and how they feel about collecting sets in different finishes.
I wonder if the price spread between 69 and 70 might give some insight into how many collectors are really out there. If the price of 70s goes beyond 2x that of 69s, while those lower pieces remain flat, that could mean that the lower grades are unloved because the number of buyers is not much higher than the 70 population.
The full-oz going for $2500 makes sense when you see the comparable grade in the half-oz going for $1250. I see listings for higher prices on ebay, in the absence of lower-priced offerings, and folks would just rather go without than pay those high prices. For that matter, from the plotting I have done I see that sets have reached a plateau. It's a very short time frame, yes, but a plateau nonetheless.
MS70 $25 pieces are rising nicely, owing no doubt to new information on the population counts. If you're holding on to some obviously less-than-perfect $100 pieces, why not submit them repeatedly to PCGS to make 70s appear rarer than they actually are? See, there you can take action, unlike as in trying to control someone else's selling behavior.
To answer Jerry's question, I would need to see a chart of the 95-Ws behavior and how solid my calculation was of how they "should" be at $600. In our case today I see 69s at a plateau and no truly calculated figure of what they "should" be worth, just emotional speculation. Calling somebody "foolish" for taking a lousy 70% --100% profit just sounds ridiculous. I'm with clack and the "dollar price averaging" approach, and yes I'm keeping a bunch including my 70s and YES I think I should have money on hand to put into other coins.

It wouldn't be so bad if those witth deep pockets weren't dumping the 69's. Supply & Demand!! However, I agree that eventually demand for any of these will be great!
The low spread between 69 and 70 is indicative of the overall low pop and high demand. yes, I said low. On most bullion coins I believe the spread is higher. I see no evidence that 69s are weakening or being dumped--but just the opposite. If we assume the 70s are selling where they should be then strong demand for 69s is keeping the spread down. --Jerry
Unc plats are really starting to thin out. On Friday there was 43 Unc. plats rated MS70 on SmeeBay with the search term "2006 w platinum eagle ms70". Today there are seven all BIN. These numbers include sets.
16 MS69s all but one BIN.
Maybe there are some at TPG's but demand will overwhelm supply in due time.

Who knows maybe these will start to increase like the MS 70s. Also looks like the additional exposure from Coin Values Magazine should help increase demand.

I have a few left, I have sold 17, watch the prices and compare that to the sellers. I am getting sales when others are lower in price because I have feedback of Plat purchases. "far far" less than $2500? The last two MS69's to sell sold for $2500 with BIN. The true auctions ending in a few days will give a better indication.
