HELP me out.I have Chance to Purchase Pre War Cards. Authentic?

I have an opportunity to purchase this lot of cards. I am not a pre war expert....so i need help to determine if these are genuine and pricing due to the fact that most are in what i would consider very poor condition. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have not purchased these cards yet and am trying to decide if i should. I also am not even sure what the ruth postcard is or the taller Ruth card. Do you think the Lajoie card is genuine?
Thanks,
Zach

    Cracker Jacks definately look fake.

Where are the commons in the Goudeys? If there are only star cards - that's a definate give away.

You can never be sure. I would consider myself to be a little bit more forgiving than the average board member, but even I have some doubts about this lot. I have quite a bit of knowledge about 33 Goudey's. First of all, there is not much edge wear on those cards at all, yet the corner wear and creasing is tremendous. Secondly, nearly all of the goudey's are perfectly centered. The Lefty Grove card is very difficult to find better than 80/20. Next, the Dean card looks like it has had Tobacco abuse (smoking ect.) Goudey cards are gum cards and most of the discoloring on these cards is a greenish mildew type coloring. Finally maybe the most incriminating of them all, HACK WILSON. The right hand boarder is huge and the color of the back of the card is much nicer than the front of the card. It looks like somebody spend $50 bucks on reprints and $50 bucks on lemons lighters and dirt and got to work. If your still not convinced, ask if you can buy the Wilson for $15. Mail it to somebody who knows a lot about Goudey's and they'll let you know.

The Cracker Jacks are definitely fake- the white of the borders should match the white in the uniform. These don't.
The Lajoie is also fake. I didn't look any further than that, someone has aged a stash of reprints.

The scuffing and creases look "new" to me. A lot of those corners look like "scissors wear" not natural wear.

I think they look fake also. Several good factors pointed out already.

The corners are funny to say the least.

I agree with the above posters, that this lot is fake. I'm not sure if it's just the scan, but the Allen and Ginters are too short and wide to be authentic.

Don't ever buy anything from that seller. The "wear" is artificial, and the color contrast on some of the fakes makes that crystal clear - if the "'34 Goudeys" were torn years ago, nothing in them would be bright white.

You should also post the sellers name on this thread, so maybe you can help save somebody from loosing a bundle on a bunch of bogus reprints.

Wow. Look at those painted brows. Is that Nappy Lajoie or Rex Grossman?

there are a lot of things wrong with the Lajoie card....but the density of the print and the font type are clearly not authentic. Out of curiosity, did the seller tell you where he got these cards? does this guy sell on ebay? Or is he one of those guys who claims to know nothing about baseball cards? If you are worried about passing up on a big opportunity, set up an escrow account and stipulate that the money is released upon verification of authenticity by a reputable grading company. But frankly, even a Lajoie Authentic is worth thousands of $$ and why would this person not take that step? Pretty obvious.

That guy doctors cards better than Gaylord Perry doctored balls! Well. . . maybe not, Gaylord was not quite so obvious unless you picked up the bill of his cap.image

Couldn't be more fake if it tried. Among many examples, the Mayo cut plugs came on a solid black, blank-backed stock. And when there's at least one blazing fake in the lot - the whole group is up in smoke.

I would hope you don't mind outing the "generous" seller of these fine items?

The only opportunity you have here is getting ripped off. Why are these cards not authenticated? If they could be they would be worth many dollars. The reason they are not is cuz they are FAKE.
