1934-D DDO Peace

AUandAGAUandAG Posts: 25,037 ✭✭✭✭✭
Another forum member (sorry lost thread) brought this coin to the attention of
the forums two weeks ago and said he thought it was a DDO from the pic on E-bay,
here's the link to that auction:1934-D auction
I said I'd post the pics when I received the coin. Yes, it's a DDO but not the Choice BU
(whatever grade that would be!) but a nice EF. I don't collect Varieties in the Peace
series so if you would care to give me a retail I'd appreciate knowing how screwed I got!

Well, it is a DDO and a Top-50 Peace dollar. Which one is important: VAM-3 or VAM-4. A filled medium-sized D is VAM-3, which is the more common of the two and is worth <$50 in XF. The VAM-4 has a small D mintmark and is worth in the $300-$500 neighborhood in XF, depending on how PQ it is and all.

From the auction, I like the "No Visible wear or Distracting Bag Marks." line!

    Nice score though!

You mean a DDO is only worth <$50 or is it just the filled D thats worth <$50?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

It's better to be luck than good. For a regular 1934-D not such a good deal - for a VAM-3, nice snag. I don't think the seller had a clue.

The VAM-3, the one with the filled D (this one), is worth that -- probably closer to $30 but depends ont he coin and who's buying.

Just to let you all know, and thanks for the help, I e-mailed the seller
and also left positive feedback. The e-mail stated that I thought he
was way off on the condition. He's offered a full refund. I also told him
it was a DDO and sent the two pics to him too. Sure was fun to anticipate
the arrivial of the coin. Yes, I don't think he had a clue as to the DDO.

DDO with filled D (VAM 3) is worth < $50.
DDO with clear, micro D (VAM 4) is worth much more, say $175 in XF.

that person was me who posted it in the "bst" forum.being tapped out on funds i posted it there for humble honest reasons as those doubled tiara spikes looked killer in the photos but thought i'd pass it along was all.
