They are collected, but not to the same extent as coins and sell anywhere from $15 up, with one having sold for more than $100,000.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Welcome to the coin forum.
Might want to try the BST forum for the above.

Check out my current listings: https://ebay.com/sch/khunt/m.html?_ipg=200&_sop=12&_rdc=1
It is a common Hard Times Token. The attribution is HT-65. The date, May 10th, 1837, is the date that our nation's banks stopped specie payments due to a run on the banks by nervous citizens and businesses. This was a time of great financial depression in America. Due to the lack of hard currency, many tokens were issued privately to aid in daily commerce. Your token is one of many different designs. Exactly 1 year later, specie payments were resumed after a meeting of the nation's leading banks decided to do so.

Ok the thread from across the street brings up an interesting question. There is a different token listed there with the same date, May 10th 1837.....
What is the Historical significance of that date ???
