About six months ago, someone wrote a post on Kid Rock collecting Buffalo nickels. Looks like the "Wife Swap" program is just a few months too late!

<< <i>Even if you found an attention whore numismatist who wanted to do this with their family, I think it would make for terrible programming... image >>

Definitely. What idiot really thinks America cares that much about a coin family? If it turned out well, it could help the hobby in reminding more former childhood collectors that it could be good for their families. Still, makes for bad TV. I htink if they did one with Bud and Hyapatia Lee, it could get some ratings though, even if done cleanly.

You know, maybe the security aspect could *partially* be resolved by renting out another house at least a few miles away for a month and "living there" for the show...

Or course, potential kidnappers could still know what your real wife and kids look like and take them for ransom. But it would be harder for them to find your real home.

    It's a no win, 0 sum gain.

The Classic coin family will be pitted against Modern (Platinum) Coin Family.

There will probably be a murder of the whole Modern Family by the Classic Dad,

All in all, both Families will look like Kooks.

Along these lines, I'd like to see Laura go work with Anaconda for two weeks. In return Brandon could work at Legend for two weeks. Numis-Swap...Fridays at 8 on ABC! image

Why not just do the NASCAR family meets the Metrosexual family? Of course, I suspect that is sort of their ordinary fare, having never watched the show.

I have three kids who fall in that age range. They have all been introduced to numismatics.... I have given them coins, whitman folders, take them to the local shop, had discussions, etc.

Not one is passionate as they have other things that take up their time like instant messaging and video games.

As far as my wife, she is very supportative of numismatics as she likes to travel to the FUN show or other major shows ( with and without the kids), but so she can see the sights locally, not to scour the bourse.

She said she will help me set up a table at coin shows after I retire and the kids are grown up and actually spend time with me.

So I would have to say at this time I am the only one 'passionate'. image

I agree with the other comments that it would be foolish in the extreme for any serious collector or dealer to expose themselves to this kind of publicity. I can understand how a family that is deeply in debt and desperate for money might jump at the chance to make $20,000 even if it means their spouse goes to live with someone else for two weeks. But I'll never understand the morals of the sponsors of such a scheme. To me It's kinda like the guys that pay homeless people to injure themselves and call it reality TV.

The only reality is that given enough money some people will do anything.

I watch.image It's fun watching wives from two diametrically opposed families spend two weeks in the contrary family.

This kind of programs, including those where kids spap for a week, are very popular here in the Netherlands. I always have the feeling when I occasionaly watch one of those programs (some CAN be fun) that there are always some special kind of people who participate. I also don't think any coin collector (are there coin collectors who actively collect as a family?) fits into the description of this kind of people.
