She swears up and down it hasn't been cleaned and you can not tell from the photos. It is well struck. However she has 19 negs in the past 12 months, some for not shipping and some for not paying. I wouldn't risk dealing with her and man has she got a potty mouth. image

Looks like an added MM on a lightly circulated coin. The color is definitely not very nice and there is hardly any luster to be seen.

The reverse looks a bit odd to me. Raw and a key date on E-Bay........ better safe than sorry on that coin.

I am not that familiar with Washington quarter characteristics..... but that mint mark seems a little too..... prominent. Seems to stand out a little too much.

I would feel a little uneasy on this one also. I also suspect that it is an added mintmark.... and not an uncirculated coin. The photos do not allow you to get a closer look at it.

One also has to question why it is not slabbed. There does not seem to be any other problems with it, and overall a decent looking coin. So it should slab easily, IF it is genuine. I certainly have to question whether it is.

Lets make a list of pros and cons for this item:

    Con:

    Its raw.
    It might be an AU58.
    It might be fake.
    The seller has lousy feedback.

    Pro:

It might have been a rip!

Looks like most are agreeing with your intuition Smed624. I'd say you are off to a good start on spotting problem coins. If your spidey-sense is making you uneasy with it.... there is probably something to it. I have found that over the years, when I went ahead and purchased an item even though I sensed...... something was not quite right.... I ended up regretting it.

Pickup something a few weeks ago that from the start look wrong, but i still bought it... Thank god it wasn't a bank breaker....
Sometimes you have to cough it up to a learning experience...
It will be one of those coins that I will never get rid of.... you can't put a price on knowledge...

SOME SCRATCHES YOU CAN SEE ONLY WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS AND THEY ARE ONLY ON THE FRONT OF THE COIN. THEY ALL RUN IN THE SAME DIRECTION]/i]

The coin has zero luster evident in the photos, and looks like a stripped AU. that's retoned. The seller could allay any concern for less than $20 and turn the coin into one worth many thousands instead of one worth $450 by putting it in a TPG holder.

I'm not sure about the mintmark (it looks like it is raised too high but need a better looksee) but feel it is a definite AU.

Looks like an added MM. Looks kinda small. Stay away!

AU, stripped and retoned. Fugly coin.

Seller uses all caps. Annoying listing. Valuable coin sold raw. Potentially added mint mark.

So what's not to like about this coin? image

I think the mintmark is good and the coin is no doubt AU, but the white balance is off so I cannot tell if it has been stripped. It actually looks like it might be an original AU with a very good strike.
