I enjoyed meeting most of the forum members who have posted on this thread yesterday at the Coin Show, and am looking forward to seeing more of us there today.

Jason Stevens' (JBSteven) Table #617 "Affordable Coins of Houston" is a good meeting place to get in touch with one another.

I purchased 2 very cool coins at the show yesterday that I will be posting as soon as I get a chance to photograph them, perhaps during the week (as I'll be at the show all weekend).

After struggling to find a parking place on Friday and wading through thousands of bible-clutching people, thanks to Creflo Dollar having a revival meeting in the adjoining hall, I actually made it to the show. Lots o' good stuff in dealer's cases..................don't often see a Pan-Pac set with the holder in a show dealer's case. Matched 66's across the board incl. both $50. Cool! There were few bargains to be had and money was trading hands, wholesale, retail, what's the difference? Biz is biz.

I saw Cameron Keifer who was keeping pretty busy. The PCGS gang was slammed. For the MS '06-W Plat folks, there was none for sale anywhere. (had to get that in as this IS what the coin world is truly about at the moment)

As a side note, I did tell the bible folks that the yellow Ferrari in the side parking lot was owned by the spawn of satan, and they would be returning to set fire to it before the weekend was over.

Some quick pix of my newp, from Dr Gene Bruder's table. I tried to capture the red luster, but it's tough to find the right angle through the glare of the no-name slab ... from which I will soon free it, so that it can take its rightful place in my Dansco. This is the beginning of my 7070 upgrade program.

I was at the show from setup until Saturday afternoon, and I agree that the GHCC and Carl Schwenker are some of the hardest working coin show promoters in the country. They cared about how the dealers felt and would immediately troubleshoot any problems that occurred.

I was not as optimistic as Laura was with the show's activity level. Although coins were selling and there were buying opportunities to be found, I did not feel that the level of activity was solidly strong throughout the show. There were moments that things felt lethargic and sporadic boring spells happened from time to time.

There were some very nice coins available for sale, but activity and action on the floor ebbed every so often

kudos to GHCC and Carl Schwenker ....they were first rate in their efforts to provide excellent security for guests and dealers.......hall was quite clean and spacious......one medical emergency occured and it was handled quickly and professionally.....lighting might have been a bit better....... WTCG is correct.... the crowd did ebb every now and then.... there are probably a few improvements that can be made (adding an auction, adding a working post office) and I do not offer these in any negative way...its hard work running a show especially if its a club shop...... hopefully as years go on the show will continue to grow....

i want to add, i went to the opening of the show on thursday afternoon with Colonial coin union ( john) and i thought the show was very secure and accomodating. it was nice to see some of the southern dealer freinds and making new contacts . i met scarsdale coin , wtcg and j b stevens along with walkerman and had a great time . We had to leave on friday at 2:00 pm to get a flight back to boston . overall ,i think the show was well done and overall there seemed to be adequate business happening between both dealer to dealer and retail traffic seemed ok . there were some great coins to be had as i found many and purchased alot and anyone looking for early great bust halves, i bought most and sold quite a few newps right at the show. PM me if your looking for high grade early bust halves and ill get back to you on whats available.

I was at the show Friday and the early part of Saturday. I was able to upgrade an 8tf to a pl and find a tough date 1889-S in ms64 pl, so I was happy.

It was also good to see some of the forum members and meet many of the national dealers that I have bought from online.

It was great to see more national dealers taking the time to participate. The show contained a lot of coins of all sorts and prices. It also seemed that many of them had committed to coming back next year.

The one thing that was absent was platinum. A couple of people walked in and asked around but did not seem to have any luck immediately.

I also noticed that a large percentage of the walk in crowd was bringing coins to sell.

Overall, the show was a success and seemed to build a platform to develop future growth.
