Stike through on 85-cc Morgan

I am looking at an 85 CC Morgan at a local shop with a strike through on the wheat stalks below R and I in Pluribus. The rest of the coin has a decent strike.

Are strike throughs good or bad in your opinion?

For the most part, strike throughs are neutral for me- they dramatically alter the eye appeal. A really intense strike through might be interesting, but not worth much premium to me...

Is that a 1885-CC or a 1985-CC?

lol, just kidding, does the seller know it's there? Is this a VAM?

I know little to nothing about Morgans... Time, money, motivation are all lacking in this series.

My wife on the other hand does like morgans and would like to collect them... However, the most important factor of lack of funds to keep up is whats swaying the venture

I would like to see this one though, sounds interesting (I like errors too, but same rules apply...lol)

I'm thinking about starting to play the lottery so I can someday win and be able to afford the series I want

I'm rambling, I bet no one reads this whole post so at this point I could say anything I want and no one would be the wiser... bite me

I agree. I have looked at several planchet errors/strike through's . on morgans it is really just another hit.

I passed on an 85 CC because of a strike through, there are to many nice ones to settle for one that you aren't completely satisfied with. IMHO

Speaking of1885-cc, I have a GSA packaged one and I belive behind the 5 is traces of a 4. It is listed in the Breen Book as rare yet everyone I've spoken to says it does not rate any preimun. I don't have the coin in hand as it has been put away for some time, any help from anyone?

It entirely depends on the effect of the strike through and how you are collecting. If it adds interest to the coin, then the uniqueness of the error definitely should bear a premium. Otherwise, it might have a thin market restricted pretty much to those who like Morgan errors. Not exactly the kind of coin you would want in a type set or as your 85-CC representative in a date set.
