Can someone tell me if I got burned?

I just one this on an auction and the button was greyed out at 50.00 and it said that it sold to a floor bidder. I was mad because it would not allow me to bid higher than the 50.00. It went from 45.00 back down to 40.00 then I was able to push it back up to 50.00 and that is where it greyed out and sid it sold to a floor bidder. I checked my won section on ebay and it said I won it at 80.00. I was pissed. no way did it ever show this or allowed me to bid higher than 50... Please give me your thoughts if I got burnt and the waht you think about the coin at that price if I get stuck with it.Text

Bid history shows a floor bidder bid $75. If you bid 80 or more, that explains your price. I'd say that floor bids probably are slow to get entered into ebay. If you think this seller is fabricating fictitious floor bids to bump you up, I would think that unlikely. --Jerry

Nio what I am saying is I placed my max bid at 45.00. For some reason it went back down to 40.00. I bid two more times once at 40 then at 50.00. For some reason my button would not let me push it anymore as it was greyed out and still showing 50.00. I was ticed because I wanted to maybe go to 55.00 but at that time it said below it sold to a floor bidder. How could it be grey out with a place your bid at 50.00 then say it was sold to a floor bidder. At that time I noticed it sold to me at 80.00. I watch these very carefully as they can jump in a hurry. This was not the case with this coin. If I get stuck with it what do you thin about the coin>? Condition etc. Thanks to all that reply.

Wait a minute...an NTC MS64 touted as an MS65 in the title? That looks AU...and you bid at all?! Why the heck would you want to bid even $50 on this POS?

I like the dark toned look with the blues. I got carried away with the 50.00 mark. I would have been happy with that but no way at 80.00. something was bull on that auction and they will here about it. That auction stopped and greyed me out at 50.00 and it said sold to a floor bidder at 50.00. How and the H$#@ did I get stuck with it at 80.00. It never ever went above 50.00 period!

you are not "stuck" with it.

just don't pay.
Tell ebay why.

the coin actually does look like a 65, and if it is then you might have actually done well

You think so. know it is hard from the pictures but I compared it to others I have and others one ebay. It looks very close as this year does not show detail like others for instance 1921 etc. I was guessing 64 at the most but you may be right?

I looked very close and the stike is killer and the coin itself is very, very clean, Rimmm looks very nice also. The leaves, hairline is what throws me? What do you think in an honest opinion?

Geez. I was prepared to change my mind about this coin being AU if someone told me that 1886 Morgans were prone to weak strikes. If that's a strong strike for that date, then the coin is absolutely AU and this wouldn't surprise me seeing that it's in an NTC holder.

As far as being ripped-off, if you only bid $50, that's all you're responsible for. Refuse to pay and be prepared to trade negs.

That I will do. My activity show in ebay that I placed a bid at 50.00 then a bunch more. But the last bid was 13 seconds longer then the rest. Dont know how it happend but it is wrong. Even when it said it sold to a floor bidder at 50.00. That was a plain as day. Thanks again

The correct forum terminology is stiffed™- and this qualifies. I don't think that morgan is worth over $30....

The coin has no wear imo. The original dusky blue grey toning can give the appearance of wear. The fields and surfaces look fully lustrous and choice. The luster is no doubt a tad subdued and probably keep it in the 64 or 63 range. But there's no obvious reason the coin could not be a real 65. Until seen in hand no way to know. I like this color look on 19th century type coins as long as the luster beams through the toning.

Even if the coin was an honest MS64 there would be few people willing to fork over $50 for it in the NTC slab, as essentially it is raw.
And even if a likely PCGS or NGC 65 candidate there are very few buyers who will pay much over $50 to take such a shot. One can find some very choice MS64+ Morgans in top tiered 64 holders for at most a $5 to $10 premium.

And it was interesting how this seller tossed in a 15% "buyer's" premium on top of the ebay sale. In this case I'd bet it could get missed by a bidder and turn out to really be a "buyer's" fee.

I agree. Mint-state coin with attractive, original toning. I like it. How high in the MS grades it goes can not be seen well enough in the photos. Maybe 63-64. Could go 65 but it seems like a long shot. Good deal for $40, not so good for $80.

You did not read my comments. I bid at 50.00 and stopped. It would not let me bid anymore than that. It was greyd out and the bid would go back and forth from 45 to 50 a couple of times. At the end of the auction it said an on the floor bidder won. What does that tell you. I bid 100 times or thier computer was screwed up?

Can someone tell me if I got burned?
