He has some other nice board toned comm halves. I can't tell with the pictures though... good or no?

    Might be NT. Used to get that target toning on both sides on seated quarters and dimes in old albums. The shadows under the date digits and obverse stars would be right for that too. It is raw though.....

    I like raw coins--just have to be careful. The board toned coins don't look cleaned... overgraded maybe though.

    LOL, I read a "guidebook to cleaning coins" once, and the author suggested baking them in a baked potatoe in the oven! This would tone them nice and purple, lol. It's funny because a few decades ago it was blast white that everyone wanted, so out came the cleaning solutions... then it was like, hey, an old coin should have a nice toning to it, appreciate the coins that show their age! So then out comes the toning solutions... Perhaps if it is ever chic to own poor grade well worn round smooth discs, there won't be anything to tempt alteration!

    First one is AT.


    I'm very careful about rim toning these days. I've been burned buying raw rim toners on the Bay in the past.

    Learned from those mistakes and now only buy slabbed.


    Second one (blurry pic) is just plain silly. Why even run an auction w/ that pic?
    Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

    Nice example of AT at work. Make a mental note of how sharply defined the color differences are. Think "mellow" blending for NT colors. Silver coins, in the first stage of natural toning, will go "yellowy" first. Mellowly yellow, that is. Hard yellow seen? Never, naturally.

    If you see hard, or unmellow, yellow anywhere with other colors on a 90% silver toned coin you're looking at AT. Guaranteed.

    Too many scratches on the cheek, color is too strong, doesn't look natural.
