Since I seam to be batting a thousand tonight, with the earlier stone mountain. I decided to post this coin also..

I think its been dipped , also but I hope I'm wrong...

Nice photo, but it definately looks dipped and possibly harshly cleaned. A circulated coin should never look that bright.

At the very least it has been thoroughly dipped and appears to have been harshly cleaned, too. What grade did you buy this coin as? Also, what grade did you buy the Stone Mountain as?

Your dime still has remnants of it's original surfaces. Look inside the D of UNITED, S2 of STATES, O of OF, E of AMERICA and the 89 in the date. That's what your coin used to look like.

I now found your other thread where the dealer sold the Stone Mountain as an uncirculated coin. The images of your Stone Mountain certainly make it appear AU, and it was no doubt also dipped, but I posted here again to agree with Cladiator to let you know that the dirt that could not be removed easily from the inside of the reverse lettering is likely what the majority of this coin looked like before being stripped. You can also see this between the digits of the date. If these came from the same person I would suggest not doing business with them again if you want problem-free coinage.

I agree that is one is cleaned. To white and alot of hairlines.

See if you can return them. I think the ANA has some sort of mandatory return policy thing for it's members. Many coin shops and dealers are members of the ANA.

The Stone mountain might not be so bad. From the second pics it still doesn't look cleaned to me. Alot of the early commems have been dipped out. The reverse looks pretty nice IMO. As long as you didnt overpay to much for it it might be a keeper. But again an original undipped coin is always the better deal.

I'd be willing to bet a body-bag that both of these coins (The Stome Mtn and the 91 dime) have been to the cleaners.

Don't worry -- a lot of us learned that lesson the hard way -- I'd try to take them back, and ask the dealer to explain...

Incorrect, that is all the dark leftover residue from whatever abrasive cleaner or polish was used on that coin.

Cleaned, but not worthless. If the hairlines aren't especially harsh, it can retone with time. It can never be uncleaned, but it can become no longer ugly. Worth an XF price to somebody, at least.

That could be residue from the original dirt or the cleaning agent, or both. As I know all too well from polishing silver jewelry, it's hard to get into the nooks and crannies, so in coins it's a tell. Doesn't look dipped to me though (polished, not dipped?). It's not worthless--the coin still has some nice features and I'm sure you can sell it.
