Trade dollars are often smuggled out of China covered with tar in the bottom of junks [flat bottom boats]. Thus, many times they are harshly cleaned in order to try and get all the tar off .... and often have specks of black tar still on the surfaces.

any suggestions?..........I have never dipped, acetoned, etc. a coin so I have no idea what to do. It seems like glue is on it.
