Is Price Guide equivalent to MSRP?

Kind of like how MSRP is the "official" price for other products, but yet you'll always see retailers selling way below it.

For example, a gold Buffalo PCGS PR69 DCAM sold on ebay for well under $800. But price guide says it's currently $950.

Either the ebay seller doesn't know jack... or the $950 isn't attainable. Which is it? Who would rightfully pay according to the price guide?

price guide is just that, a guide.

market action dictates the real price.

A Price guide is just a WAG in the coin business because values vary greatly sometimes, even for the same grade, based on eye appeal and such.

Problem is, MSRP is based on there being one solidly defined product. The MSRP for X, which comes in a box, is $Y. With coins, you might have the same label, but drastically different prices if the coins are different. Nice coins can sell for more than the guide, and ugly ones for less.

On some series, the guides are really high. On some, they are low. Only on a few are they close to being right. But the actual market value for a coin varies from coin to coin. There really is no solid guide for coins, as I've figured out. You may be able to buy a certain coin for $X some day, and the next month be able to buy it for $Y.
