Who is Lee Stern and Bruce E. Fox in the small chance I run across them and/or the coins?
I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

Upon following up with Marty at NGE, Inc., I found out that Lee is the victim in the crime. It appears that the coins were absconded with by Mr. Fox, formerly doing business as Golden West Numismatics in Orange County, CA.

I just got off of the phone with Lee; he was on the other line with the FBI. I will call him back later this afternoon and get more information.

This was a fellow with whom Lee had done business with for years, and is a huge financial hit.

    Both surprising AND depressing.

Wow! I haven't heard Lee Sterns name in awhile and didn't Fox write the Silver dollar fortune teller book?

Gee, too bad, must be money crunch time.

Les Fox wrote the $ book, but Bruce Fox was an expert in WL halves and wrote a book on those.
PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Wasn't Les Fox the one who was promoting the signed slabs?

I hate this stuff...I really do. I'm home sick today & using my Treo to post so I hope this works.

I knew Bruce Fox well....& trusted him years ago....but he tried to burn me....& almost got away with it. I actually did not know he was still in business. Sadly I must recommend all avoid business with him based on my history & what I read here....very sad for all invloved.

I talked to Lee at length this afternoon... He is beside himself. Seems like he really got taken. I've asked him to visit here and tell his story - I'm not going to try. I hope that people are VERY careful about who they trust out there. A sick, sad story. Please keep an eye out for those coins.

Apparently this Bruce Fox is quite the piece of work and I'm sure he'll be tracked down in short order.

More than likely the coins have been dumped at a discount for quick cash or perhaps consigned to an auction house for a future sale, with a cash advance of course. Although he would have received less cash going the auction route the scheme would remain under wraps for a longer period of time pending advertising for any sale. It would have taken longer that way for the coins to pop up again.

If NGE has photos they should post them just in case the coins are cracked and resubmitted to one of the services.
