Woo-Hoo! Won the 82-O GTO on Heritage

Figured someone would make me pay more for it. It's an 1882-O VAM-29A in PCGS 64 (OGH and looks good). These are really tough to find in my experience, though I did cherry two raw ones at Anaheim last year. (Guess they'll be going on my inventory sale page soon then.) Haven't seen one near this grade before though. VAMView has it priced at $1500 in 64 but I don't believe any have been sold before.

Thanks, guys. I checked my email from Mark Kimpton from last September when I found the other two and he said that only 3 others were known at that point, though his book cited 4 examples total (maybe one was a duplicate count). Unless others have turned up, this would give a population of 6 (and I have 3 of them). The variety is a strongly clashed rotated die with the G from the reverse motto clear along Liberty's neck on the obverse. From its discovery, it was expected to be ultrarare as a very late production clash that likely was retired quickly. Last I heard, it was still the expectation. It might ultimately rival the VAM-1B (weak E clash) of 1887, which has 7 examples known and has been avidly sought for over 30 years. Time will tell.

edit>>I believe M.K. meant there wee the known 4 plus 3 others found and my 2, bringing the total to 9 and now 10 today.

ttt -- Wasn't going to but I know there are VAM folks who like to know these things and might know more than I do about the current pops.

Just heard back form Mark Kimpton. He basically said that the pop is about 15-20 with few in MS and that this one would be the finest known to him. Can't wait for it to arrive. Heritage always waits until the after auction purchase period expires before shipping lots though.
