gold Buffalo PR69 and PR70
2 out of 8 came back PR70, the rest are 69's.
I can't for the life of me visually see any differences.
Someone mentioned rim nicks on the buffalos as the usual cause. Is there a common location where these defects show up?? The holder itself prevents full visual clarity of the rim/edges.

Precisely why the valuation margins are ultimately doomed. Crack and resubmit the 2 70s and maybe one will come back as a 70 too.

<< <i>Just curious, did you send the coin in its Mint supplied capsule? >>
Yes i did. Called them up afterwards to see if they can return them as well... but no luck.

Maybe they dented the rim prying that plastic apart. Just messin'

Interesting, when I was a little tiny youngin' reading the RedBook and the Blackbook,
it seems I learned that MS or PR-70 was a theoretical grade.
Now, this was in the early 80's, I guess times have changed.
Lincoln set Colorless Set
"The Emperor's New Clothes"
And to think there are huge markups between MS 69 and 70 in things like American Silver Eagles, etc.
Well, just Love coins, period.

It depends on whether the graders dined on bean burritos at lunch, or a nice leafy salad with vinagrette and fressh croutons......salads get you 69s.

I believe if a coin shows a 'tiny trace/dot/mark or imperfection' under 20-X magnification, it is a 69. Otherwise, it is a 70.
I would be glad to own a 69 for a lot less $$$.
