1892-S VAM 2...

Are these scarce? I saw there were only 2 in PCGS 55 none better.

I've got one in an ANACS 50 and was curious if it was worth anything?

I'd guess 40-50% over common. AU50 is a funny grade though, where the bid jumps in price. If it crossed to PCGS at grade, you'd
do well.

Yeah, a true AU is a great grade for that one. I got a 45 (NGC) and was thrilled. If your ANACS woudl cross at AU to PCGS, it would be excellent. In any event, that is around the cusp grade for the variety.

What brought this up was seeing an 1892S in the upcoming B&M auction. That made remember I had attributed mine a few years ago when the TOP 100 VAM book came out.

Yea, they're tricky up there. But then again, as has been pointed out, there is a massive price jump (from $270 to $1,500 in Greysheet) for regular coins of that date between XF & AU. So a lot of the value of your coin is based on the fact it is in an AU50 slab, instead of the XF45. If you go down to 45 @ PCGS the price difference between a PCGS XF45 VAM2 is probably NOT going to be a whole heck of a lot higher than the ANACS AU50 VAM2 which you currently have. As a result, and IMO only, I would probably send it in for crossover at AU50 or higher. If it makes it, great...you just made several hundred bucks. If not, your just out the crossover fee and I would eventually sell it as it is in the ANACS AU50 VAM-2 slab.
