Attributed another VAM yesterday
Comcast bit the dust Wednesday and when it came back up I was unable to connect as it turns out my Motorola Cable Modem, 2 years old *cough* had bit the dust. I guess we can believe in coincidences.
Anyway I sat down at my desk camera in hand and my copy of the Van Allen and Mallis Encyclopedia and dug out my stash of Morgans again. I grabbed an 1890-S, turned to page 308 and began reading.......
"A fair number of minor die varieties exist but only VAM 12 is significant with strongly double 90 at top." III2 5 C3 a (Doubled 1-90). 1 is doubled below upper serif, 9 doubled at top outside and 0 doubled strongly at top left outside showing as a thick arc.

It was a "VAM" moment and a little cha-ching.

<< <i>Nice! Isn't it fun "finding" things right in your own collection?
I think that's 12 I have found now that are recognized as VAMS. Thats out of about 30 coins, 4 of which had been slabbed without attribution and 3 of those are VAMS. And yes its fun, at least more fun than listening to the news.
