PS to all forum members - if you haven't been to Stone Mountain in GA,
go if you get the chance. The carving is magnificent and if it's during
the summer, they have laser shows on the carving set to music.
It's pretty cool.

Would this be considered a So Called Dollar?

SCDs can commemorate a person, event or place. The Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial is a place. Also this stonemountainpark.com page says "A dedication ceremony for the Confederate Memorial Carving was held on May 9, 1970" so the 1970 date on the medal may coincide with the dedication ceremony event. The place and event nature along with the size may indicate this qualifies as a SCD. The other thing to find out is whether it was issued in 1970 or if it was minted over several subsequent years, e.g. if it was issued as a store souvenir or the like.
