What do you think of this one? Legit color or did PCGS miss the boat?

Appears to possibly be an end roll toner. I didnt look at the auction though for reverse pics... so done flame me if its toned as well.

I would seriously question an AU58 coin toned to this degree. Primarily because, why on earth would someone keep this around long enough to develop this kind of toning??

Unless it was 25 minutes at 350 degrees!

( Ididn't say that did I? )

I think this one slipped through although the cert number does not look that old but still the question stands.

I think its NT. ATing an AU seems pretty pointless to me. Plus Russ's shows a shade of purple that is common in ATd pieces.

I think Russ's example is just a really really really good artificial piece.

Maybe, but perhaps it was a Doctor's inexpensive "practice" piece? It doesn't look natural to me. JMO - Preussen

You're making the assumption that small time coin doctors know how to determine the sometimes nearly imperceptible difference between an AU58 and a mint state coin. Scads of the crap sold by Tonecoin2003 was AU.

When I was just a little forumite, there was a thread where several folks opined that emerald green was a color that the docs couldn't do, or at least well. Is that not true now, or was it ever true?

Hard to tell from an image on eBay. PCGS graders had it in hand which is more reliable than any response on here one would think.

It's blessed as market acceptable PCGS says so.

And the reverese being white says end roll with some rub to get the AU ticket.

I've got the coin in hand.

I do not know the history of the coin, but feel that the coin is most likely NT. The colors are certainly uncommonly found, but that does not mean the coin is AT. The best toned coins have uncommon colors, and that is what makes them the best.

That being said, there is a return option in case the bidder receives the coin and does not approve of it.

This statement should automatically be posted anytime an AT naysayer of a Big 2 slabbed coin gets questioned UNLESS the naysayer has held the coin in hand. Just common sense folks!
