Dear fellow forum members, and "The Wisest of all Bears":

I cannot accept this award tonight.

As George Washington would say, "I can not tell a lie."

If that was my 5 out of 10 submission, I would be singing in the street.

I was just scanning the submissions near my petite submissions, and I discovered this one lucky 'mutha submitter'!!!!!!

    Cheers to him/her.......image

Not a bad idea, Bear.....but, I believe some real person is going to be quite happy with those 5 PR70 RP's.

My 2 plat quarter oz's now show 1-17. I have all the others...a 4-coin that obviously has the quarter in there and yet no quarter singles.

I received five sets of the Silver Anniversary Sets early in December. The coins are beautiful, no doubt...especially the RPs, but I noticed that all five of the RPs are rotated about 30 degrees off true...has anyone else seen this?

    I have three hypotheses:
    1. I just got "lucky" (or not) with a rotated die error. This may or may not be a good thing, depending on the market.
    2. This is deliberate on the part of the mint to reduce the chance of monkey business (taking an uncircurlated 2006 and doctoring it to look like a reverse proof...I doubt it, though, since you would also have to change the mint mark to a "P")
    3. This is a major error that isn't very widespread and will be worth lots and lots to the right people.

Any comments/observations would be appreciated...especially from those who have seen this in their own coins or could speculate on the probably impact/worth of the coins. Is it worth sending them off to NGC (I have an associate membership with them through ANA)...with the intent of documenting the error? Or is this below the radar and the coins are actually less desirable to other collectors due to the rotation error? Thanks. [If it would help, I can take digital photos tonight and put them on the message board...I haven't actually measured the rotation, but 30 degrees is probably a good guess...it is certainly more than you would expect to see in a proof coin especially]

FWIW, the shipping date on my half ounce gold W just got bumped from 12/27 to 1/16.
I ordered about two hours before the "product not available" notice went up.

Are the fractional APE Proofs worth collecting???

    1/10oz. 10,000

    1/4oz. 5,000

    1/2oz. 3,000

Mighty low mintages from my vantage point.

Do they not have the same appeal as the Uncs.???imageimageimageimage

    Thanks in advance

PCGS just graded my one and only Plat Unc 1oz'r........gotta MS70FS!!!!!!image

The amazing part, is that it was received on 1/3/07 and graded today by noon.

I had 3 submissions in one box, and this one was sent to the Bulk Dept.

The other 2 were Modern and Regular.

    You did great!

    ______________

    On the Proofs:

I bought a 1/2 this summer because of the 'apparent' low mintage at the time. (It's in at PCGS with my Unc's, now.)

Then things changed and they sold a ton of Proofs.

In any case, depending on how the 1/2 comes back, I am going to get the other three coins but only the graded ones, in the after market.

I think you might do better with 2007's, IMHO

Where did you get your numbers?

    Numismatic News says there are:
    3300 1 oz
    1713 1/2 oz
    1410 1/4
    3648 1/10 oz
    5139 4-coin sets

This is listed under 2006 Proof American Eagles Sales Platinum

By the way congrats on the 70. I sent in 1-1oz that I know will not be a 70, but should be a 69, I figure get the FS label and decide later what I want to do with it. Two 1/2 oz I sent in, hopfully/could/should be 70's. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

What values could you get for MS70 platinums and gold uncs? Any guess is good as mine. I look at PCGS's price guide and some 70's are getting $4k-$10k...and these are not super low mintages like the 2006-W.

10 sets ordered 10/16/06 received 1/5/07 via USPS Registered mail. Ship date on US Mint website stated 12/21, and my acct. was debited on 12/26. Tracking # did not show up on USPS or DHL. There was probably a loose capsule inside, but I won't open it - will let one of the grading companies do it. image

2 to 1 is pretty good odds at this juncture.

Assuming someone buys a box of these in the open market and send it in for grading, the cost would be around $3000.00 , if you don't get any 70's, would you be in the red?

I paid the U.S Mint $1005 for the case of ASE's

I paid $40 to ship to PCGS.

I paid PCGS for grading and return shipping $465.

I can make a nice profit if I sell without question.

However, you're right, on the open market you'll pay an additional $1000+ minimum(if you are lucky).

Without at least 2 70's of the RP and a couple MS70's, you will lose money.

But, what if you get 3 RP's???

Remember, I posted an earlier thread on a guy that got 5 out of 10 PR70 RP's....UNREAL!!!!image

    30 coins x $14 = $420

    10 boxes/COA x $2 = $20

    Postage and Handling = $25.80

    Total = $465.80

Interesting report from the lead story of the Jan 22 edition of Coin World. Someone bought 300 of the $10 2006-W Unc platinum eagles from the mint for $180 each. That person then sold all of them to Silver Towne for $600 each, realizing a profit of $126,000. I'm guessing that person is the one who caused the $10 eagle to sell-out.

The $10 fee was for the "First Strike 20th Anniversary" label. The sets had to have a US Mint shipping date of October 24, 2006 or before to qualify for "First Strike", then you had to pay $10 if you wanted the label.

I don't know if this has been addressed, but why are there two sets of PCGS numbers for the 2006-W Uncirculated Platinum?

    For example:

    $50 - 21123, 21127
    $100 - 21124, 21128

why are there two sets of PCGS numbers for the 2006-W Uncirculated Platinum?

One is First Strike, the other is either 10th Anniver./no selection

For BOTH NGC & PCGS - Here are the 1 oz. Pops

    AS of 01-15-2007:

    196/413 - about 47% of the 1oz. graded MS70 at PCGS

    140/231 - about 60% of the 1oz. graded MS70 at NGC

--->OVERALL 336/644 or 52% of 25% OF THE TOTAL MINTAGE Graded so far is at MS70.

Overall if no other MS 70 Grades come out, 336/2500 = 13.44% of total Mintage is MS70

Remember, the 2006 W-Uncs used the SAME planchets as the 2006 W-Proofs used. The W-Proofs get (5) hits in the Press, the 2006 W-Uncs (3-4) hits.

And then PR70 no FS were going for $1000 to $2000??

I think they are going to go much lower for non-first strike because so many can still have them graded. First Strike will begin to climb back up since it is too late for most and there are very few compared to the total number of reverse coins.

Remember, the 2006 W-Uncs used the SAME planchets as the 2006 W-Proofs used. The W-Proofs get (5) hits in the Press, the 2006 W-Uncs (3-4) hits. >>

It was my understanding from watching the show on the Mint that was broadcast on the discovery channel, that the proof plats get 9 hits of the die and the dies are good for up to 250-300 coins.
