New Ebay bidder Privacy issue

I've posted before that I kindo like the new ebay bidder privacy policy using bidder1, bidder2, etc because it gives bidders the privacy some of them want and still gives me a lot of info about the bidders.

Well, I found a situation where it isn't the best. I sold a bunch of coins last night to a BIN from a 0 feedback newbie. He just called me and said he's having trouble getting his brand new Paypal account to work. I was hoping to get a little more info about him by looking at his other bids but it appears that with the new hidden bidder policy any "search by bidder" returns zero results.

Well at least he called to give an explaination. Some don't do that and some do not even respond to email!

As far as PayPal goes, I think most new EBay buyers have problems with opening an account. The way they do it is kinda goofy and it just doesn;t make sense to newbies. I know it didn't make sense to me.

So, give it a couple of days and then get some kind of status from your buyer.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

My read on the phone call is that he'll get it worked out soon. I'm just a little worried about a chargeback. The only real bad scenario I can think of is if this guy is a scammer, he opens a new pp account, claims he didn't get the goods and charges me back. So if I ship with a signature required the worst that can happen is the money gets tied up for a while. right? What if I sell him other coins off ebay via paypal, no extra risk here, right? He has bought all I have on ebay so I don't see any ebay problem selling more off ebay.

I always watch the bidders on ebay that are new very closely. If I am not going to get paid, it is most likely with them. I just suck it up. I get my listing refund from ebay, and move on. As far as the selling side goes, I never buy from a newbie. I want to see a little response from the buyers first through their feedback.
  • an easy solution is to just drop a friendly email to those newbies with zero feedback and let them know that you want to verify their contact / shipping info (if they win, you get that info anyway) plus you can request their contact info through Ebay. ive save myself some headaches when i find out that they have bogus addresses, disconnected phone numbers etc. 90% of new bidders dont mind, 5% whine about it and the other 5% end up being cancelled and blocked.
  • Why didn't you tell him to send you a postal money order, not wilight?
Then you wouldn't need worry about Paypal.
You get the money order in the mail, cash it at the Post Office, send him his coin.
    Done deal.

He communicated openly and honestly and finally gave up trying to finance the purchase of these coins. He just didn't have the money, was trying to put them on a credit card, and din't have the credit to support a $3500 purchase. image Most likely he was speculator that somebody told "gold is going thru the roof" and he just had to have some right now.

Eventually I filed a NPB as a mutual consent and he agreed immediately. I got my fees back and the coins are now listed and selling at a new price $50 higher since the demand has gone up. He made me $250 bucks by tieing up these coins for a while.

I found another example where I DO like the new system. I had a bidder buy 3 coins for a total of $6800 the other night. He had private feedback which is often a red flag. But the new system told me that his rating was around 50 with 100% positive so I wasn't worried. He communicated well, we struck a deal on free shipping and a few bucks refund if he paid via e-check and saved me $200+ in fees. I didn't ask him why his feedback is private but now that the deal is done maybe I should.

I am afraid, that E-Bay will not be satisfied

untill all of it's auctions, are a

    "Mystery, wrapped in an enigma

and placed in a puzzle". Soon, we will not

know who, is doing what,. to whom and why.

How about a little KY Jelly for all.

Tell him to send a money order. Use the "contact bidder" feature in the summary of the item you sold.
    All glory is fleeting.
