Breaking News - U.S. Platinum Coins cause FRENZY!

I've just returned from the FUN Show convention in Orlando.
The FUN Show, as you may already know, is one of the biggest
precious metals and rare coin conventions held in the United States
every year.

This year the convention was AWESOME. It was by far the best rare
coin convention I’ve attended in many years.

The rare coin market is on fire!
The U.S. Mint fans the flames with
new LOW mintage Platinum coins.

Literally, every time I bought a rare coin or group of rare coins I
had one or more dealers ready to pay me 10% to 20% more. The demand
for quality NGC and PCGS rare coins is simply incredible.

The hottest coins at the show were the 2006-W Special Anniversary
Mint State Platinum coins. The government sold out of these sets in
the blink of an eye - only 2,515 sets were minted, making these coins
among the rarest U.S. Platinum coins every minted.

When you consider how many of these 2006-W sets will grade PR70, you
can quickly understand the excitement and why collectors, dealers and
investors are fawning over these coins.

I expect fewer than 500 sets will grade PR70 at PCGS and NGC.
That’s my best guess.

These sets are selling for $9,950 and I've been doing
everything I can to lock up as many sets as possible. I think these
have the potential to jump to $15,000, even $20,000 even if platinum
doesn't go berzerk.

I expect zero will grade PR70 since they're MS coins.

...Why would anyone pay 9K for the set right now when you can get them on ebay for substantially less?

  • Speaking for myself, more and more scams will become commonplace, especially with the "sealed" box mania. It's just a matter of time brfore someone lays out 5+ grand for a sealed mint mailing box only to discover a piece of drywall inside.

I recently sold a sealed box of ten ASE 20th Anniversary sets ... the thought never crossed my mind. However, in retrospect, especially knowing what people do with sealed boxes (generally, keep them sealed for submission), it is an area perfectly suited to scammers. They would have PLENTY of time to cover their tracks.

I just checked my email. I got the same e-mail... twice.

    I sent him this reply:

"If you can get $9,950 per set, you need to go back to fflorida and sell every set you have. Then replace them on the real market."

...then I blocked him. The dork.

My uncle once bought a "sealed box" vcr out of a van in the Walmart parking lot. Brought it home so proud of his great buy and when he opened it up it was full of bricks. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

This hype is not going to sell coins to many of the forum members but it will fan the flames of the ongoing frenzy. I think the PR70 was an honest mistake that I have made myself. But see, when you use all that hype you come across dishonest and honest mistakes are interpreted as intentional. The reason I say honest mistake is that there is no advantage to calling it PR70. I have a 2006-W PR70DCAM set for sale for less than an MS70 set will bring.

Drywall futures. Looks like there is some potential there for the savvy speculator.

I'm embarassed to admit it but when I was a college freshman, I did the same thing with a set of speakers, great deal from the back of a van, until I got home and opened them. I learned my lesson, no more sealed boxes for me.
