I am no expert but the placement of the word 'Liberty' and the date seem highly suspect IMO.

Mules like this are common among fakes. I have a 1804 Trade dollar with a heraldic eagle reverse. It's like they don't even bother doing any homework at all.

Other clues:

"Savannah, GA"

Real denticles are long like teeth, and run into the rim. These are dots and are distinct from the rim.

The style of the date is wrong.

The points on the stars are too narrow.

Plus even overlooking the obvious mule, it doesn't match up with any Bolender die varieties. Ooo! Must be a discovery coin!

Thank you for these pointers. And a few more simple ones are Pretty Obvious. Clues are PLANCHET flaws (pitting , rust color), Mushy look where any detail is supposed to be (usually signs of a copy cast counterfeit) and um... there are others and I think I described which type of fake it is...But it is in the coin Grading book, I'm too lazy to reference it. Oh, and one other way to tell in picture is overall color. If it looks like it's made of pot metal, it probably is.

I remember another thread similar to this on and the coin also had the Heraldic Reverse and was called a fake as well.

Their 1793 half cent is almost certaily an electrotype. Their 1794 large cent is almost certainly an electrotype. Their 1876-S Trade Dollar is a fake. Anyone want to make any bets that their raw, BU gold coins were minted in Hungary?

"estatedoctor" DR.IRVIN CLARK P.O.BOX 5453 SAVANNAH GA.31414 really needs to be stopped. I reported all these to ebay, and also emailed the US Secret Service. If nothing happens, I guess the next step would be to call the Secret Service field office in Savannah 912-652-4401.

There's a local coin dealer with a bowl full of these crude pot metal fakes, $5.00 each. This one is up to $500.00. Another outrage. Of course, this one is from an "estate".
