Hypothetical .. You get 2 weeks notice.

Here is the scenario:

As a coin collector or investor you have just been informed by your doctor
you have 2 weeks then its lights out. (You have a terminal illness and your time is limited).

Are your things in order?

Can your significant other handle the liquidation of your collections?

Where do you start?

Who can get the best price for you coins?

You while you are in a hurry to get them sold
or
Your heirs when they can take their time, but they have limited knowledge?

At this point do you Care?

Just put a big note on top of your collection that in the event of my death send everything to Heritage if the date is pre-1950 and send everything else to Teletrade if it is post 1950.

That has to be the easiest most painless way. Unless of course you have a trust worthy local dealer that can take care of everything for them.

Although I am not terminal, I am old.

In view of this, everything is almost

in order, or will be, in the next few weeks.

Coins are almost all sold, money in bank, life

Insurance and long term care in place as well

    as legal documents for estate.

The coins took me 12 months to slowly sell so

the question asked in this thread is actually quite

important for sizable coin collections. If I still had

my collection and intensded to keep them till the bitter

end, I would have left specific instructions where the collection

was, a careful inventory as well as the specific agent to handle

the purchase and/or sale of each specific coin or coins. This together with

the name , phone number and address of the person or persons at said

coin facilities or dealerships. Further, each coin would be listed, with my purchase price,

fom who purchased, date purchased and the approximate current value as of a specific date.

I'd instruct my wife to consign my collection to Russ and Marty, and ask them to get her a fair price less their commission.

Not your best bet. The house edge on a double zero roulette table is 5.26%. If you get into the high limit room of most casinos you should find a single zero table with a reduced house edge of 2.7%. You'll be much better off if you head to the Baccarat table and put it all on banker for a low house edge of only 1.06%.

Two weeks? I'd curl up and cry hysterically in bed for those two weeks. The last thing I'd think about were coins, just about how unfair life was.

When I had a heart attack, I wasn't given 2 weeks notice. It was rather sudden if you know what I mean.
My will was 25 years old and badly out of date, but my wife was still alive and everything would have been okay.
When I had heart bypass 4 years later, I wasn't in quite the hurry I was in before, so I updated my will, the night before the surgery.
My coins were a low priority. The divvying up of 6 life insurance policies was the thing I wanted to have a say in.

    considering i am not old.....

    that would suck.

    my affairs are in order.

i would have way too many scores to settle to worry about a few coins.

if i gotta go early, so do some other people.

    know what you don't know.

    hi, i'm tom.

i do not doctor coins like some who post in here.

    5 minutes to go.....

I'd get in line at a Benny Hinn faith healing church service...and as soon as he laid his hands on my fore head...ZAP!...i'm gone!

I'd get a second opinion. Of course it might be like the late great Rodney Dangerfield, whose doctor said "You're too fat!" Rodney said "I want a second opinion" and the doctor said "OK, you're ugly too!" image

    Two weeks?

This would be an easy one...trade in everything that you have no emotional affinity toward,

and finally purchase that one coin you've longed for your entire life!

    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
